Four Pins Power Alderson Broaddus Wrestlers Past West Virginia Tech

PHILIPPI, W.Va. -- The Alderson Broaddus wrestling team recorded four falls on their way to a 48-0 victory over visiting West Virginia Tech Tuesday evening at Rex Pyles Arena.
Breandan Coughlin got the Battlers off to a fast start scoring a pin in 58 seconds. Paul Steger extended the lead when he scored an escape with eight seconds left to earn the 13-12 decision over Austin Dilly.
Curtis Cox earned a 9-3 decision over Logan Robertson to push the Battler lead to 12-0. Dillon Lemons bumped up to 149 and posted a 6-0 shutout with over five minutes of riding time.
"Curtis is so athletic," said head coach Sam Gardner. "If you give him a chance to show that athleticism then he can make you pay. Dillon continues to be tough on top, but we would like to see him turning people more. Overall another solid match for Dillon."
Levi Hobbs movee up a weight class and also earned a decision in a high scoring 15-10 match against Clay Fritz. Nick Sulhoff started a run of three straight falls to close out the match. Derek Schmidt recorded the fastest fall of the match using just 37 seconds to earn the pin at 174.
"I was really happy for Derek tonight," said Gardner. "He has been on the schnide a bit coming close and making small mistakes that have cost us some bouts. For him to come out and get a pin the way he did was a really good feeling."
Gino Sita finished out the wrestling with a pin late in the first period to extend the Battler lead to 36-0. Tristin Breen and Jared Burgoyne claimed forfeit wins to set the final.
The Battlers are back in action on Friday when they travel to Garrett College in a makeup from a match postponed due to winter weather earlier in the season.
