Alderson Broaddus Wrestlers Top Lakers in Home Finale

February 6, 2019

PHILIPPI, W.Va. -- The Alderson Broaddus wrestling team finished off a perfect home record by defeating Garrett College 44-9 Wednesday night inside Rex Pyles Arena.

The Battlers opened the match up 24-0 after a Curtis Cox pin of Jacob Sweitzer and three Laker forfeits.

Tyler Bauer earned a hard-fought 6-4 decision avenging a loss to Jordan Day from earlier in the season.

"I am really pleased with how Tyler [Bauer] wrestled tonight," said head coach Sam Gardner. "He lost to their guy earlier this year and it was my fault. I am really happy that Tyler went out there and wrestled a good match and got that win."

The Lakers got a decision at 165 and a fall at 174 to narrow the lead to 27-9, but Josh Dailey stopped the run with a first period pin to extend the lead to 33-9.

Gino Sita moved up to 197 and earned a 19-4 tech fall, his 14th of the season. Jared Burgoyne closed out the match for the Battlers scoring a first period pin to set the final.

The Battlers are back in action on Friday when they travel to Ohio Valley for their final dual meet of the season. Wrestling starts at 6 p.m.
