AB Wrestling Posts Three Place-Winners at Washington & Jefferson

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Logan Shurina and Cody Spinks each picked up third place finishes to lead the Battlers at the Washington & Jefferson College Invitational on Saturday.

After a bye in the opening round, Shurina pinned N'codie Barrows of Wheeling Jesuit in his second preliminary bout. He used a 2-0 decision in the quarterfinals over Nick Guzma before dropping a tough 3-2 decision to Millersville Ian Shannon in the semifinals. Shurina wrestled back scoring a win over Ryan Walters and pinned Washington & Jefferson's Ajala Modraza in the consolation finals.

Spinks took a similar rout also going 4-1 in the tournament. He pinned Dmitry Callas of Millersville and scored an 8-4 decision against Thiel's Marco Crivelli to advance to the championship semifinal. Spinks lost an 11-7 decision to Sonnieboy Blanco before scoring a win over Dylan Lauffer and Ron Tassoni to place third.

Matt Harris was AB's third place winner winning four staight bouts after dropping his opening match before falling in the consolation semifinals and fifth/sixth place match to finish sixth.

Jason West finished with a 3-2 record just off the podium. Cody Buchanan, Micah Powell and Sam Jones each tallied a 2-2 records on the day.

The Battlers are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m.
