AB Wrestling Competes at Edinboro Open

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Alderson Broaddus wrestling team competed in the highly competitive Edinboro Open Saturday at Edinboro University.

To start things off for AB, Cody Buchanan finished 0-2 on the afternoon including a loss in the second round and a 10-7 defeat in the first round of consolations. At 149, Chris Brent was pinned in the round of 32 to No.7 Chad Saunders out of Virginia Tech. In the consolation round, Brent lost a 9-5 decision to Mattheos Lozier of Virginia Tech to finish out his afternoon.

At 157, Jason West lost his opening round match to Luke Fortuna of Missouri 5-1. He bounced his way back in the consolation bracket by picking up two forfeit wins while scoring an 8-3 decision over Grant Fetchet of Columbia. Following another forfeit, West pinned Mark Bozzo of Michigan State in 4:05 before pulling out of his next match to end his day. Also competing at 157 was Logan Shurina. He won his opening round match 8-3 before a fall to Collin Harrell of Kent State in the round of 32 in 5:48. West didn't wrestle in the consolation bracket which allowed teammate West to move on.

Keith Stednitz lost his opening match at 165 to Dillon Artigliere of Cornell in a major decision of 11-3. In his consolation round, he lost a hard fought match 8-7 to Preston McCalmon of Arizona State.

At 174, Davis Solak lost 20-6 to Myles Amine of Michigan in his second-round match. After a bye in the consolation round, Solak fell in the round of 16. Cody Spinks also dropped his first round match but after a bye in the next round, he pinned Keegan Harris of Buffalo in 1:45 to move to the next round. Spinks pulled out of his next match to close out the afternoon for the Battlers.

AB returns to the mat Tuesday for a dual match with West Virginia Tech before hosting Ohio Valley Saturday for its final dual of the season.
