Jesuit 4-0 at JCU Duals

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The 2015-16 Wheeling Jesuit wrestling season could not have started off much more impressive. The Cardinal Culture wrestlers posted eight undefeated individuals and a perfect 4-0 in dual matches.

The WJU started the Saturday competition with the second shutout in program history, 50-0, over Mount St. Joseph. The Cardinals added victories over host John Carroll (27-15), Washington & Lee (30-16) and Thiel (39-16). As a team, WJU posted a 31-9 record in the 40 matches of the four dual matches.

WJU's Dustin Warner (125) highlighted the individual performances with a pair of pins in his 4-0 afternoon. Damon Outward (141), Dominick Nania (149) and Reyse Wallbrown (157) also came through their opening days on the mat at 4-0. Nolan Whitely (133), both Peyton Geary and Keegan Driscoll at 165 and heavyweight Logan Bowman were all 2-0.

After receiving forfeits in the opening two duals, Warner pinned both Ethan Hartman of Washington & Lee and Justin Walter from Thiel (2:36).

At 133, Nolan Whitely posted two solid matches with a tech fall (15-0) over John Carroll's Iain Whitis, before he pinned Giuliano Graziosi of Thiel in 2:15.

Nania (149) and Outward (141) had one fall of their four victories. Nania claimed decisions win in his first twobouts, before he finished with a tech fall (16-0) against Washington & Lee's Zachary Papin and pinned Nick Sutton of Thiel (1:44). Outward took down Thiel's Nick Burkett in 3:44 after decision wins in his opening three matches.

Like Warner, Wallbrown started his 4-0 day at 157 with two forfeits. The sophomore added a decisionwin, before he had a fall in 2:13 over Derek Steetle of Thiel.

At 165, Payton Geary posted two decision wins and Keegan Driscoll claimed two forfeit wins for another perfect weight class.

Heavyweight Bowman recorded a 1:47 fall over Garrett Schweitzer of Thiel of his 2-0 day while Garrett Reinwald's first WJU collegiate win was a fall over Joe Kammerer from Mt. St. Joseph.

The Cardinals return to action next Saturday, Nov. 14, at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational.
