Wrestling Opens Season With Dual Meet Wins Against Wheeling, Fairmont State
January 9, 2021ELKINS, W.Va. - Davis & Elkins began the 2021 wrestling season in grand fashion with dual meet victories against Wheeling and Fairmont State on Saturday afternoon inside the McDonnell Center.
D&E opened the year with a 46-6 win against Wheeling and followed it up with a 34-17 win against Fairmont State. The Senators collected six victories by forfeit against Wheeling, while Kyle Wojtaszek rolled to a 10-1 major decision win against Deshawn Mercadel.
Meanwhile, the Senators picked up bonus points in three bouts against Fairmont State. John Finnerty impressed with an 8-0 major decision over Alex Jablonski, while Noah Tarr made quick work of Taven Swick with a win by fall in 1:16. Wojtaszek recorded his second victory of the day by fall at 2:11 against Tucker Lawson.
All three squads also wrestled several exhibition contests, which will be inlcuded in the results below.
