comments: People are hoping for a Jr. High State. First of all, most ofthe Wood Co. teams are limited, because the BEEF wrestles club. People wonder why everyone else wins the Jr. High events and PHS and South win the STATE Highschool tournments. So life goes. Just make a 13-15 State meet and most of the kids will wrestle. Keep it separate from the Jr. States and open to all 13-15 year old State residents. out of the 12 to 14 weight classes will go to a Parkersburg kid!!

comments: A little article about just one sport.

Early specialization faulted

A big problem, many experts in the field say, is the push for kids to specialize in a single sport very early in life -- well before puberty.

"This has backfired in our faces," Faigenbaum says. "It truly doesn't work."

'When you play different sports, you use a variety of motor skills -- jumping, running, twisting -- that can transfer to a lot of sports.'

- Avery Faigenbaum
University of Massachusetts

Kids may hone certain skills in a particular sport with early, intense specialization, but they can also burn out emotionally and physically. And they may not necessarily be achieving the goal they or their parents hoped for -- becoming the best athlete they can be in that sport, he notes.

"When you play different sports, you use a variety of motor skills -- jumping, running, twisting -- that can transfer to a lot of sports," Faigenbaum says. But if young kids focus on just one sport, they may not reap these benefits.

"There's absolutely no evidence that says that if a [child] athlete plays just one sport that will guarantee success as a teen or adult," he says, adding there's actually more evidence that if you diversify you'll play better. Ask most pro athletes what they were doing at age 10, he says, and most will say they were playing two to three sports, not just one.

Focusing on a single activity also puts all of a young athlete's eggs in one basket, says Metzl.

If kids don't try other sports, how do they know whether they might not like those sports more -- or be better at them?

And even top-notch athletes can tire of their sport because of what it takes to win. At Greenwich High School, the boys' swim team program has been hugely successful, losing only one meet in the last 25 years. But just a handful of the athletes have gone on to swim in college, says Mediate.

"They have double practice sessions -- morning and night -- almost every day for 10 years," he says. "So it does add up. It's burnout."

comments: This is to the person who wrote about pettit being beaten at the Mason Open.
Pettit was not trying to win the tournament but to use it to get in shape for the "real" tournament being held in Vegas in April. Why at 39 years of age would he wrestle two different weight classes when guys half his age was wrestling only one????? If this made some wrestlers happy that they had beaten one of the WV's most unspoken, underrated and overlooked wrestler than you better enjoy it because if you ever go greco than you will be seeing things differently. Go to Vegas and wrestle if you "really" think you can hang with the big boys...remember there are no folkstyle there. My two boys got the thrill of a lifetime just sitting beside him and bombed him with questions, he took the time to smile and laugh but not once did he try to "teach" anything just told my boys to always cherished what they have and be blessed that they had both parents. WHAT A ROLE MODEL!
He gave his trophies away to kids that were crying because they got beat. I just get tired of hearing about what they do in state but never hear them do anything in the "BIG" tournaments, like in fargo.vegas, or/and world's. I, along with many parents are hoping that Greg would have some sort of clinic/camp but he made it clear that he felt that he would not be the person good enough to hold one. He just wants to continue fighting after Vegas and then really retire to enjoy his life. So how many of you are going to Vegas to wrestle in the Senior Nationals???????

I THINK THE MIDDLE/JR. HIGH KIDS NEED A STATE TOURNAMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

comments: I see where you are coming from but at the same time why not go out and see what you can do. Our state is lacking great competition and for Ripley to go there not only will it help Mitch but the rest of the team will see where they need to be. I think coach scott has taken a step that a lot of other coaches might not beacuse of your reasoning. But in 2 or 3 years those kids that go 1-2 or 0-2, you will see them placing because of the eye opener they will recieve. I would hope the rest of the state would try to get into these big tournaments. But if not, hey Ripley will be the team that challenges the Parkersburg teams first.

comments: Just taking a moment to say thanks for making a lot of great memories come back after all those years being away from WV.

I had a great time wrestling in the Mason County Open last weekend and met alot of my friends, as well as made new ones.

George Keency, you are one hell of a guy and friend that anyone can have, I am lucky to be associated with you for 30 years.(Thank you for giving my kids some advice)

Jack Cullen, you are a great family man and have inspired me to do well with life even without wrestling.(Your son does look like your wife)

To all of the wrestlers that I had met on and off the mat, you will always have something that a non-wrestler will ever have and that is called RESPECT!

It is not whether you win or lose but to sweat for it, train, and sacrifice your time to be a great wrestler..the struggle is what counts.

The highlight of the entire day was seeing a blind wrestler placing 4th, he was so happy and it did caught me off guard, because all I wanted to do was give him my trophy instead but he was escorted off the mat before I could gain my composure.

Thank You from all of the California wrestlers, we had a great time.

comments: I do realize why Ripley is going to go to the Beast of the East. They are going to show case off Mitch Smith, which he needs to be in national events like that. Yet at the same time I dont not see what good it will do for the rest of the team. Yes it will give them experiance in a large tough venue, but most of those kids will go 0-2, 1-2, 2-2 thats about the best the rest will do. You need to take baby steps when it comes to this. Star out with Medina, Breckesville, Top Gun or Midwest wich are all in Ohio and much tougher then West Virginia touraments but yet not as tough as Beast of the East, Iron Man and Reno. I feel the needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few. How will these kids improve and for there pschye to go out there get beat out really quick. I do like it in the sense that these kids can say I wrestle a state champ for this state or this guy became an Div 1 All American and such. I think this is where West Virginia is behind in the times. I think West Virginia needs to change weigh in so the Indivduals can enter a tourament with out taking away weigh ins from the team. There are several teams with exceptional wrestlers where this could benifit. If West Virginia changed this we could send people out ot places like Iron Man and Reno. Most of these big invitationals are in december so it would not take away from most of the season and it would help put the name of West Virginia wrestlers out there.

comments: Just a suggestion for the freestyle tournament at University. The wrestlers seemed to have fun and learn a little something new, but my suggestion would be to have a ref who actually is trained to referee freestyle there to help explain the scoring and help the refs out. This is in no way knocking the refs that were there. They were new to the sport themselves and listened to coaches and wrestlers more familiar with the scoring. But I think it would have benefited them a great deal to have some knowledgable help. The refs were volunteering their time and were learing something new as was most everyone attending the tournament. It would have benefited everyone to have someone with some freestyle experience there to help explain the scoring. Just my $.02.

comments: Well I have to disagree with you about what you are saying about not having anything to do with wrestling after college. How many HS baseball, football, basketball players make it to the pros??? NOT VERY MANY!

There is wrestling after college and it is called cage fighting. I love it and seemed to be doing very well with it here in Cali. You can win between $5-$10,000 a night but you have to really train for it and wrestling does help a lot more than people realize.

I am a firm believer that by sticking to one sport, you can master it to be the BEST, than just by being GOOD in two or three. But then again you would be a much rounded athlete by doing more than one sport but not the best.

The High School Nationals tournament is an invitation for a once in a lifetime experience and should be attended because you could never go back, you could miss a little game or two but by not going you can NEVER say you are one of the best because you just have avoided the best High School Wrestlers in the Nation.

I would love nothing better but to see some WV's win the thing.

So the ones that are going, I wish you nothing but good luck and remember you stood up to the challenge of wrestling the best this Nation has to offer.

? How many kids in Jr. High and High school know what they want to do with there life. For that matter how many adults do?

I think it's alot better for a young mans future and cultural development to be more well roujnded than just focusing one on thing especially in his teen years. Look on how many things would be missed by just focusing on one sport. Also, if you were going to focus on one sport wouldn't you want to focus on one that can take you further than just colledge? One that you could make a career out of? Don't get me wrong I love wrestling, the sport, the people you meet, it's alot different than any other sport, but there's really nothing after colledge is there?

Just listen to some of the young men on the fourm say things like, don't talk about me on the fourm I'm focusing on football now, or I'm playing baseball now. Is the one sport your focusing on, for you or your child?

comments: I'm glad to see the Jr. States results, I wanted to see how the seeds came out. They came out within reason on most of the classes. There needs to be a weight class or changed to bring the weight within 2004 weights. The kids are getting bigger, so the weights should start going every 7 or 8 pounds rather than 5, starting in the 70's.

Most athletes are good at other sports, I played football, baseball, and wrestled. Brandon Rader for instance, will most likely go to a D1 school, he wrestles non stop and thats why he is so good. Some people can be great at many different sports like shane smith 3x champ, all state baseball and football. But just doing wrestling is fine to. Also no offense to Gustines but I dont think he qualifies for Sr. Nationals anyways because I think in WV you have to place 2nd or 1st to qualify.

comments: As Coach Peters stated, they do plan to reduce the number of weigh ins by 1 or 2 depending on the number of teams in your conference by counting your conference/county tournament as inclusive. The only way we got the 14 this year was I found in the "Interscholastic" that they sent out to coaches it said exclusive and I called and complained. I told them that after they sent it to us that way and everyone had made out their schedules then to change back to inclusive would cause a lot of problems but was told that this coming year it will be 14 period no matter how you use them. AS for the WSAZ, the tournament director did address this and was told by the same WVSSAC that if that was the rule where they came from we would have to abide by it. The one that bothers me more is that in KY they can combine teams much as the much discussed coalition from Southern WV at Pee Wee States. In years past we have wrestled "Big Sandy" Jr. High which does not exist but rather is a combination (all-star) team from several schools. In other years they have used other names. Let us put two WV schools together and see how we do! Anyway -more importantly - we need to get on this weigh in thing ASAP!

From: Pat Peters- Williamstown
comments: As Jim LaMasters stated in a past forum. All coaches need to discuss with their principals the number of Junior High Matches. This year at the Junior High Level we were able to take advantage of 2 additional weigh ins due to a mistake in the "Interscholastic". Ask your principals not to get rid of the rules stating that "the conference does not count as one of your weigh ins". To make the conference count as one of your weigh ins only sets back our sport of wrestling. The principals should be meeting soon so please talk to your principal.

Second, as to the out of state schools not following the guidelines of making base weight at the WSAZ. I have always been told, "When in Rome do as the Romans". If we travel outside the state of WV to wrestle then we follow that states guidelines (EX: different weight classes). When those schools from Kentucky and Ohio come to the WSAZ then they should "do the the Romans do". I believe this is a problem for the tournament director and it should be addressed with all coaches during the seed meeting.

comments: Like to congratulate the following wrestlers who competed and placed at the AAU district tournament at Waynesboro PA this weekend. Musselmans Dustin Haislip Advanced 110lbs, Martinsburgs Robert and Chris Conner both at Elite 160lbs, Todd Judd advanced 120 (I believe), Jesse Jarvis advanced 160, and Ben Drake , I forget what weight class he was wrestling sorry,. I had to leave before the finals but I know that when I left all of these men had placed. Nice to see that the competition is dedicated enough to take next season seriously. Would have been nice to see some eagles show up but it's their loss. Anyway next tournament is at North Hagerstown High School saturday april 2nd. Usually this is a very good tournament with a great turnout. Hope to see a number of easter panhandle wrestlers there.

comments: I appreciate all the support and attention I'm still getting, but I'd just like to ask that this conversation stop. Chance and Hays are great wrestlers, and I'd have loved the chance to wrestle them both just to see where I stack up. But the time for that is passed, I feel I've proven everything I needed to, and I'm satisfied with what I've accomplished. There will always be doubters; I've heard them my whole career. The key is not to take anything to heart, but to keep it in the back of your mind and use it as motivation. Let it push you to work that much harder.

But back to the point, I just don't see any point in berating each other and tearing down a wrestler's accomplishments to decide who would win a fictional match. Fact is, I'm just a has-been now like so many others before me, hoping to be remembered a few years down the road. If people are to talk about my wresling, I hope the topic will be what I accomplished, not what could have been. Chance, he's not quite done yet though, and I wish him the best next year as he tries to accomplish the goal of becoming a State Champion, and earning himself a place in the memories of the wondeful Big Red fans who love to watch him wrestle. If people are to talk about him, I hope it will also be of what he has accomplished, and what he may yet acheive in the time he has left. As for the two of us? It's just not going to happen, so lets forget about it and focus on the here, the now, and the future. Thank you again, to everyone who has supported and continues to support me and my wrestling on this forum. All of you have helped to make my HS wrestling days an experience that I will never forget.

It would be cool to see them 2 go at it. It would be an exciting match because both wrestlers just attack from the first blow of the whistle. Are you using the new forum? I registered. Yes Wood County will have a good year again probably another state title for the city of parkersburg. Williamstown probably will have a re building year losing so many valuable seniors. As for PHS-South next year I give an edge to South but ya never know, I'm not to familiar with all the new faces PHS will be having next year. Cant wait though, Good luck to all wrestlers representing WV at the senior nationals.

email: comments: Regarding the fantasy state championships for middle school and jr. highs. The WVSSAC would have to be involved. Right now it is deemed illegal for a school to wrestle in an event that is not WVSSAC sanctioned. Also, Shane and others who care - there is a set plan to reduce our weigh ins to be INCLUSIVE of any conference or state tournament counting 14 total for middle schools and Jr. Highs. We need to fight this somehow. I was told this by the guy in charge at the WVSSAC this year after a discussion between Pat Porter of WTown. You can read about it on the old forum archives. One other thing, we need to make allowance for our county/conference tournaments as well. Right now these are held 2 weeks prior to the high school state tournament. Our team goals will most likely remain to won our respective conferences first and foremost - just as I am sure the folks in Wood Co. want to take theirs back from Point Pleasant - we want to try to take ours back from Cammack, etc. It's an interesting concept to be sure but to try to do it outside the WVSSAC is not wise. As Doc, said one time they carry a mighty big stick! You guys in Wood Co. - they are right there at home so see if it will fly with them. I'd love to see it happen before I retire!

comments: Doc, I don't care for the new forum. It is set up just like a lot of other forums. Part of the charm that makes your web site the best is your forum. I think it allows for more spontanaity and more interesting conversations. Other forums are filled with little "snippets" of information that are difficult to access and read, wheras this format allows for a much more readable and enjoyable forum.

comments: Ideally the WVSSAC would be involved so that like in High School it doesn't count against our weigh ins or if it does to add two more weigh ins. I agree that Parkersburg would be a good place to start the first tourney. I also agree with Coach Panico on having some type of qualifing method to get to go, so that the kids have to work for it. The conference idea sounds interesting but how would you decide what conferences get the "wild cards". If roughly there are 9 conferences in the state and the top four are allowed to go that would give us 36 wrestlers. I agree also with the fact that some "conferences" are only like 4-5 teams while others have 12 teams or more. A lot of work would have be done to have this happen but I am all for it.

comments: How many years would Hays and Litton have won the AA state championships? I would say it would be right around three, Hays dominated Flowers last year(a 2xAA state champ), and other than Easter no one in the state would have beaten Litton. Great wrestlers arent always maesured in their accomplishments, anyone who can watch a good match can tell you that.Mitch Smith is a two time champ and was beaten by someone with much less credentials. I just know that wrestling for Parkersburg and North Marion is a shade tougher than wrestling at Cameron where they wrestle in the OVAC and thats basicly it. Hays or Litton were and are much better wrestlers than Hughes. Like it or not AA is just a total differant ballgame you will get an average of 3 kids that win it in AA that would also win in AAA, and some AA state champions wouldnt even place in AAA.

I have run into this situation several times before where a kid has wrestled high school varsity and moved back down to the Jr. High / Middle School division. Many times they have never made the base weight for the middle school weight classes. Example - Kid wrestles varisty 103 all year. After Jan 1. 95 changes to 97 and they get 1 extra lb. at WSAZ he moves back to middle school division and wrestles 98 having never made 95 because all he had to make was 103. It may not be legal in WV but it is in other states - specifically Ohio. Every year at WSAZ we have kids do that and I was told that the national rules make no mention of it. Therefore, we have kids from OH and KY that have wrestled varsity matches at home come back down to wrestle middle school kids. I don't even know who you are talking about but would like to know where you found the results because I have a couple of my middle school kids who went up there to wrestle and I'd like to know how they did. At least in that state the results get posted in a timely manner so I'd like to go check them out.

Would appreciate comments on the set up. Specifically, I'm thinking about requiring registration to post, but allowing posts from registered users to be automatically added without review. (!!!!!!!). Why? Easier for me. The down side is that some may post objectionable material even with the identity known.

We would still maintain an "open forum" section for non registered readers to post to, but all posts here would be reviewed prior to being seen.

Editor's note: Good point. Thanks for the input. I have considering making registration a requirement for forum use. Most boards do that.

I haven't done that because...

a) Generally, to register as a user, you have to supply a verifiable email address so that it can be checked and the contact point and (presumably) the identity of the user verified
b) I like to keep this forum open to students who may not have an email account anywhere. Keeping it open allows them to post and participate from the computer lab at school (or wherever).
c) It is true that anyone can get an email account from Yahoo or some such place. Any student in school could (presumably) get a Yahoo email account and check email from a computer at school. But...
d) Such email accounts which you get at Yahoo, etc, are not themselves verified. You could get an email account under the name of Hokus Pokus, and thus...
e) You would still have the problem of anonymous posters.

But, somewhere along the line, we might change it.

I'm still working out the bugs on the registration process, and I certainly wouldn't want to make any changes until I can see that it is working O.K.

I am toying with the idea of making only ONE of the general topic areas on the new forum "open" for anonymous posting. Any posts that come to that area must be seen by me prior to going up. Then perhaps make posting to all the other topics by registered users only, but then allow them to go up without review (which means they would appear the instant they are sent).

Whaddya think??

comments: No disrespect to Litton, but Hughes is better. The kid's been disrespected, talked down, and belittled on here his entire career. So what does he do? He wins 3 state titles, missing only one due to a serious injury, never lost a match by more than 2 points (aside from 2 very early pins as a Junior to 2 very good wrestlers...and you say a major decision???) after his Freshman year, and goes undefeated his senior year with a victory over the AAA State Champ (say what you will, Richey BEAT Litton when it counted, and it sure didn't look like a fluke to me, Richey wrestled great). That's heart, pure and simple, his heart is what makes him a true champion, and its why he would not lose to Litton. Congratulations on a great career Casey, and espcially on being named OVAC WV Wrestler of the year. There is no young man more deserving of such an honor.

It's nice to have wrestlers who can move around without fear of hurting a team. Replacing Dearman may be the biggest challenge. The one people havn't mentioned is Matt Lindamood, who will be wrestling as a freshman. I know South has some kids moving up and around also. People around the State don't realize the depth of these 2 schools, then add Williamstown in. Wood Co. Has enough power WVU at Parkersburg might as well buy some mats and jump into wrestling, theres that much talent in the area. Nobody has mentioned Belpre they have a couple of kids also. comments: Would someone please send in results for either or both of the Jr. State Tournaments, along with any other youth tournaments that have not been reported? Doesn't anyone out there care enough about their tournaments to share the results? I think it's time we just make up our own results and send them in. I doubt if the tournament directors would even notice, judging by the amount of attention they must be paying to this site. You should take the advice of a recent poster and refuse to mention these tournaments or have their entry forms on your site if they don't report, and this includes any so called state tournaments. It's gone way beyond irritating and something has to be done. If I didn't report my school team results to the media promptly, I'd be reprimanded in all kinds of ways. If these tournaments expect to live up to the billing that many of the posters are giving them, they're going to have to back it up by showing the results. Now, come on, ...

comments: WV MAT MAN: Your picks are quite funny. Dearman getting pinned? Doubt it. Walters losing, nope, AAA would win most of the matches. I would however like to see dana davis wrestle shane smith, davis would take it to him but shanes a great defensive wrestler and knows how not to get taken down.

comments: to WV MAT MAN,
your AA vs AAA is comical, thanks for the laugh.my personal favorite was 275.Dearman rarely gets beat in the toughest tournies in the U.S. next 171 Walters already beat Tracewell this year.and i hope i dont sound like a big red fan....but Shyver,Rader, and Thomas would at least major their opponents.i know it was probably just wishful thinking. thanks again and keep up the good posts someday you may rival "superman" with your posts if you work at it.

comments: Ohio is having its first state-wide youth tournament (take note WV fans). Go to www.ohiogradeschoolwrestling.com for brackets and results of kids you may know.

One way Ohio solved any "residency" issues of kids is to require that you must attend an Ohio grade school to wrestle in the tournament. Get a letter from your principal--very simple. Where you sleep on weekends is irrelevant. The term "residency" is open to a million questions. But, like in high school, WHERE you go to school is clear.

comments: I hope a good group is going to the Mason Co. open on 3/27. I think the weights for 11-12 are more in line with the size of youth these days, plus I want to comment about the JR> States and a Fairmont Rep. gaureenteeing certain wrestlers entry after the closing date. My son was one who was asked to attend, which he had other commitments that weekend.

comments: Good Doctor--the off season would be a great time to make 2 MUCH NEEDED changes to this otherwise great website, both of which are already present of Pa.'s youth site.

First, add an "RE:" or "SUBJECT" line to your sumission form so the posts that are days apart can be followed without confusion. Better yet, add a subject "thread."

Second, make it a mandatory "promise" of anyone who utilizes your site to post an entry form to also agree to submit results after the event. It works--just out www.pennsylvaniayouthwrestling.freeservers.com." It is a travesty that neither of our state's biggest youth tournaments submitted results, while nearly all Pa. youth tournament directors do so. Thanks and hope you can make these changes.
Editor's note: I'm tinkering with a new forum page format gadget. We may try it out in a few days...
RE agreeing to post youth tournament results, I don't know how that would go over...

comments: To matman: you forgot in 2000 at 125 Ash Wenmoth, although he was AA, he beat JP Stanely, Robbie Ripley and Danny Lord that year. I dont think people realize how good Ash was, he pinned the AAA state champs Alex Reed his Sohpmore and Chris Johnson his Junior year and then Beat Stanley 10-5 his senior year.

comments: I think another weight class over looked is 2000 AA 130lbs, it had Eric Noel of Oak Glen/Weir win a 2x state champ and a runner up, Rodger Kupfer of Cameron a 2x state champ and runner up and 3rd, Jason Hayhurst of Ritchie, a 2x state Champ and 2x runner up, Willie Westbrook of Williamtown 1x state Champ and 2x 4th, Adam Leach of Grafton a 1x State Champion and 3rd, Derke Metz of Calhoun 1x state champ Pluss Justin Dennis of Wirt who was a 3x state place winner, Chad Snyder of Tyler who was a 3x state place winner. Scott Lynch of Shady Springs who placed 3rd once, and Frank Gregg of Berkely Springs who pulled in a 5th.

THATS A TOTAL OF 9 STATE TITLES IN ONE WEIGHT CLASS.PLUSS 13 STATE FINALIST. NOW THAT IS ONE HECK OF A WEIGHT CLASS!!!

comments: Congratulations Dylan Nick for your spectatular win over Andrew Church, two great wrestlers going at it. If I remember correctly Dylan is a 6th grader , and will return to the Jr. High program next year. Hes such a competitive wrestler, you want to see INTENSITY, watch this wrestler. Here is a kid you have to watch in high school. He is a big outcome for the JJWA team, all the JJWA kids... 6,7,8,9 year olds want that competitiveness when there his age. And I do believe he has set an example, those 6,7,8,9, year olds from JJWA are right there. Alot of good wrestlers are coming up from that team. Hats off to the Head coach., alot of good things were said about that team at East Fairmont this past weekend. JJWA is a team to watch. Congratulations East... Your coaching is great as all. I heard it was a very good tournament. Good luck WV. wrestlers. Good luck Dylan Nick at Districts, Regionals and Nationals, I am sure you will be there with other great wrestlers from West Virginia.

comments: Here's a F/U thought about the high school state tournament in AAA changing to a 30 team tournament, as suggested recently, and probably several times in the past. This would just add 1 very long round of 14 matches(with 2 byes) per weight class. Also, with many teams not actually having a full team this would reduce the # of matches even further. The major drawbacks of the longer tourny to those running it are obvious with increased time of volunteers needed, more cost for refs and facility, etc.. I'm not sure if they could get enough attendance at this new first session to make it worth it. Two other factors to consider are:
(1)you would have twice as many wrestlers there and possibly more parents and relatives, so would there be enough motel accomodations to handle this?
(2)the schools who now are sending only a few wrestlers would now have to come up with the funding to send and house an entire team, most of whom would only wrestle one match. How do they handle sending back those who lose to avoid housing them for an additional 1 or 2 days?
Finally, this plan would have the losers in the first round be eliminated without a chance to come back in the consolation round. With the inevitable upsets that can occur, some possible state placers would be out. Of course this might be rare, but still tragic. At least with the regionals, you have at least one loss and still a second chance. Same with the currents states. I agree, however, this may not be as tragic as the many wrestlers from predominantly one region that never get the chance at all. One could contemplate a consolation round, after this new 1st round, but now we're really gettin longer(7 more matches per wt. class). Of course, this is all just dreams, but it's at least not about the Jr. state location.

One last thought, I don't believe you can seed this tournament accurately. So, either it would be seeded unfairly, or randomly. The latter could very easily have the top 8 wrestlers all in the same half bracket. At least with half the regional champions on each half bracket and the runners-up on the opposite side the worst that usually happens is the two best meet in the semis. There are drawbacks no matter what I guess. Well, 257 days left till the matches can start all over again!
