comments: A comment on the comments here by other eagles fans. First a question I've seen a couple proposed lineups for this coming season none of which include Mike McKinney. I've been out of touch with the wrestling team most of the off season. What's the deal with McKinney did he move, get hurt or what? A loss like his would be a major hit. A 2 time state qualifier who was one match away from placing last year is not someone that we need to be missing. Would really like some info on his status. As for the projected lineup. Yes there are some really good heavier weight kids returning but getting them in the lineup will be difficult. Personally the lineup I would like to see is 103 Shetler 112 Zimmerman 119 ? 125 Grimm 130 Miller 135 Everhart 140 D. Foltz 145 T. Foltz 152 D. Young 160 B. Ammons 171 M. McKinney 189 M. Bartgis 215 Nicholson 271 Canfield. Seems to me this lineup could have the potential to win regionals. But then again I don't know the status of McKinney also this lineup would mean a couple people would have to cut more weight then last year so this may not be reasonable but still this lineup would get all the quality people in the lineup and be the strongest lineup possible. But then again hedgesville has never gone into a season with the lineup I wanted so we'll see. As for hedgesville dominating due to it's heavier weight guys returning. East Fairmont returns a very talented team and will be very tough competition this season. With a freshman coming in at 103 who is tough and an incoming jv noechel who is tough they could make life difficult for hedgesville. And like I said first hedgesville needs to get their guys in the lineup. Not sitting all at the same weight class so some are sitting the pine.

comments: Just read in the newspaper that a home schooled kid will be allowed to wrestle for a nearby school. I know that this issue has been hashed and rehashed on here and I hate to interrupt the fascinating string of predictions and comparisons, but this makes me wonder: Will this decision open the door for a kid whose school does not offer wrestling to wrestle for a different school? Ex: Kid plays football for Parkersburg Catholic and wants to stay so that he can continue to play football there, but also would like to wrestle. Can PHS/South put him on the roster?

comments: Someone approached me at the Hedgesville JV Football game the other evening and said they read what I put on the forum. The name used was Panhandle FanSE. Some assumed that was my handle as the SE meant Steve Everhart. Please belive me it does not and I have no idea who this or any other transmission comes from. We are too busy wrapped up every week with football (JV Monday nights and Varsity on Friday nights)all week long including practices. With the other involvments that I have I would be hard pressed to write anything on here at all let alone getting caught up in the frivolous prospect of pre-season predictions. As a matter of fact the only time that I had time to get on here last year was to post our match results, update our team page, and to put some ads on the bulletin board for Coach Whittington. Much will be the same this year as I will be back for a second year a assistant at Hedgesville helping Coach Whittington.

To stop the critics, pundants, and neysayers, I am very happy and pleased to be coming back in this capacity. It has always been about the kids and having someone qualified and with some knowledge of the sport to take over should the Coach retire. I stepped forward and accepted that responsibility should it have materialized and while the training period would have been short I felt I was up to the task. I would like to take this opportunity to now thank all those vetern coaches and their assistants from across the state who I met last year that made it quite clear to me that should I have to take over they were there to help and answer any questions I might have and for that I am grateful. That however seems not to be necessary as yes Coach Whittington will be back this year and quite possibly for many more to come, I don't know only he does, and it really doesn't matter does it!. After all we only caoch one team, one year at a time. I am looking forward to serving under him again and gaining the experience that I may need to run a great program like this in the future.

With that said this will be the last you hear from me until the "Boss" has me put something out here or make some changes to our team page. And that will be during wrestling season, not Football season. This is almost as bad a Halloween stuff out on the floor in Wal-Mart Memorial Day!

Sincerely Yours,
Coach Everhart

comments: please be real... East should probably win their region this year, and possibly NCAC's (University) but saying that we are gonna take states is a little far fetched. i wish the boys from east-side the best of luck but it is clear that BOTH parkersburg team are in a league of their own. as for hedgesville having the toughest line-up in the upper weights, i have to disagree. PHS has Lindamood,Thomas and Dearman back and east once again should be very strong up top with shawn moore, ustin and jarrod hamrick, billy ray, corey noechel, and jessie valentine all returning.

September 19, 2003
comments: In those florida results, are C. Hughes and Tracewell the same two who wrestled in the AA/A finals 152 lbs last year? 140 seems a little low for tracewell, but 145 seems realistic for Hughes as he was a smaller 152 last year.
Editor's note: Can someone verify that this was a real tournemant? We've had the experinece before of wrestling fans this time of the year with too much time on their hands....

comments: In response to your question about Chris Miles. He will indeed be a freshman this season at Cabell Midland. Milton Middle sent nearly it's entire top ranked team to Midland and will be in for some serious rebuilding. There were 24 8th graders in all that moved up out of 34 wrestlers. Besides Miles (102-17) others to watch for include :Nathan Wood (103-20), Chappy Chapman (WSAZ Champ) (101-19), as well as Richie Christian(60-13)(3nd WSAZ), Shane Hayes (34-2) (2nd WSAZ)in his first year, Jeff Hayes, Colt Christian, Austin Moye, JD Ramsey, Alex Neal, Cody Nutter, Nick Dailey, Jay Turner and a bunch of others. There are also some talented kids from Barboursville Middle coming in as well. I was particularly impressed with Broce, Bailey, Conkright, Fralic and Black of Barboursville. They will most likely send 12-15 kids to the freshman team. With nearly 40 freshman Midland would seem to be well stocked for the coming years. I have only seen a couple of these guys over the summer but they seem to have been putting in some serious weight room time and have really bulked up. I don't know how many freshman will be on the varsity roster but believe some of them have a shot at being starters. It will be fun watching them over the next few seasons. Go Knights!

comments: Hedgesville will WIN regionals and place top 5 at states....Shetler top 3 at 103...Grim top 5 at 125...Troy Foltz will get top 4 at 152...Derrick Young top 3 at 171...Brad Ammuns top 4 at 189...Matthew Bartgis top 3 at 215....Nicholson top 4 at Heavy... Word around the grapevine is that Bubby Whittington is coaching again...These boys will be ready...they have one of the best upper weight line ups in the state...they will qualify at least 11 or 12 for the state tourny...put ur money on it

comments: To K...Those are some really confident predictions in saying East Fairmont is the clear favorite in AAA. I hope you realize that East Fairmont trailed Parkersburg by 109 points at the end of the state tourney. You only scored a total of 117, so therefore you will have to almost double your points from last year to win. Just as a reminder, PHS has 6 state finalist back from last year. I hope those freshman you speak of are ready! Good Luck.

PHS has the returns of top 2 state placers in jake hayes(2nd@103), robert shyver(2nd@112), brandon rader(1st@119), chance litton(2nd@130), lou thomas(1st@215), and ryan dearman(1st@HWT).Also some upcoming talent in joey lindamood, casey ice. South will return kelly, osuna cotto, shawn and sean smith, norman, walters(all their state placers), and upcoming talent in josiah dorton, nick munday. I think it will be pretty close this year between these 2 teams, i dont think any other team will come close to beating either of these 2. SEE YA IN DECEMBER!!

comments: hey nice predictions...to bad you forgot bout hedgesville... they are gonna be good...103, 112, and if they get everyone in place from 152-heavy they will make some noise...only lost 3 senior startes.... and qualified 11 for states....and they got matthew Bartgis back from a broken leg.... so that fills a gap... look for hedgesville to place 6 or 7 at states...3 or 4 will be in top 4

comments: It would be great if they started putting in weight classes in the 10-12 age groups. Most the top is 105 or 115 before jumping to HWT. They need to think about 120's and 135 before Hwt. The kids are getting bigger and a 170lb HWt. against a 125 LB or a 135 is a big differance. Some of these 170 are not over weight by any standards
