Notes from Coach Doyle
Sean Doyle, Head Coach, Wheeling Jesuit University

November 9, 2015

Wrestling season is upon us and we're excited to be sending our first regular season update. The team traveled to Cleveland, Ohio on Saturday to compete in the John Carroll Duals. Most of the team traveled and while a number of guys competed in our four duals, the remaining guys competed in exhibition bouts.

The team went 4-0 on the day, winning 31 of the 40 matches. Of the 9 matches that we lost, 3 were forfeits, 1 was an injury default and 1 was a defensive fall. The guys wrestled very well and looked to score early. Although we're excited about a 4-0 start, the guys understand that it's the first week of November and our main goals are still in progress. We'll be back in action next Saturday at the Washington and Jefferson Invitational and hope to see everyone in their Cardinal gear!

Dustin Warner (4-0, 2 falls)
Dustin starts the season ranked #3 in the country and looked strong in his only two matches of the weekend. He received two forfeits as well.

Nolan Whitely (2-0, 1 fall)
Nolan starts the season ranked #6 in the country and wrestled with great intensity in getting two dominating victories.

Scott Lopez (1-1)
It was great to have Scott back in action after taking a redshirt last season. Scott looked sharp in both matches, picking up a tech fall in his first and dominating his second match until getting pinned late in his final bout.

Josh Henderson (2-0 exhibition matches)

Nat Brown (2-1 exhibition matches)

Jaylen Hill (0-1 exhibition match, injury default)

Damon Outward (4-0, 2 pins)
Like Scott, it was very nice to have Damon back in action after a redshirt season last year. Damon is very dangerous and always looking to score more.

Tyler Hogue (2-0 exhibition matches)

Dominick Nania (4-0, 1 fall)
Dom has made the move down to 149 this season and will look to make a big impact. Cardinal fans have grown to love watching Dom compete and this weekend was no different in picking up four wins.

Kollin Clark (2-0 exhibition)

Jonathan Barrett (1-0 exhibition)

Reyse Wallbrown (4-0, 1 fall)
Reyse Wallbrown has made the move down to 157 this season. After a strong freshman season at 165, we expect a big season from Reyse at 157.

Skyler Terrell (1-0 exhibition)

Peyton Geary (2-0)
Peyton looked great in his first varsity action in his two year career. He worked very hard in two tough matches but looked comfortable and composed.

Keegan Driscoll (2-0, 1 fall)
Keegan wrestled his first varsity match of his college career and picked up a fall. We're excited to have Keegan and Peyton at this weight class and expect both to have strong season.

Clayton Ray (1-3)
Clayton is another one of our freshman competing in his first college tournament. Clayton is scrappy, tough and will continue to learn the details necessary to be successful at the college level.

Nate Starkey (2-1, 1 fall)
Nate is a RS Sophomore that has battled injuries in his first two years. We were happy to have him back competing this weekend and looked good until a knee injury pulled him out of his final match. Nate will be evaluated and we hope to have him back soon.

Garrett Reinwald (1-1)
Another one of our strong freshman, Garrett battled hard on Saturday picking up his first college win. Garret weighed in about 8 lbs under the weight class in order to move down next week. Garrett is going to be one to watch!

No entry

Logan Bowman (2-0, 1 fall)
Logan is coming off of redshirt season with great expectations for the year ahead. Logan accepted a forfeit in his first bout and then finished off our final match with a first period pin.

Corey Siegfried (1-1)
Corey lost an OT heartbreaker in his first match of the day and picked up a solid win later in the day. Corey wrestled well and in a way that he needs to in order to be successful. It was a good day for him.

Nathan Temple (2-0 exhibition)

Evan Roberts (0-2 exhibition)

Miguel Staples (0-2 exhibition)

Have a great week ahead and Go Cards!
