RICK WELKER WINS STATE WRESTLING MEDIA AWARD

At the West Virginia State Wrestling Championships, Rick Welker was named the "Snyder-Miller Media Person of the Year" by the West Virginia Wrestling Coaches Association during the state championship finals at Huntington.

Welker was also selected as the "2013 National Wrestling Sportswriter of the Year" by Wrestling USA Magazine for his columns on the WVMat.com website

In December 2012, Welker conceived, developed, and made a reality of The Rick Welker Wrestling Show on WKKX 1600 AM Radio. Since then, it has become a unique success story in the tri-state area. It is the first and only radio program devoted exclusively to Ohio Valley wrestling. His co-hosts are Scott Jackson and Doc Welker.

The show broadcasts on Wednesday nights from 6 pm to 7 pm during wrestling season. Rick discusses all wrestling topics from high school to college coaching, officiating, rule changes, weight control, etc. It is both entertaining and humorous at times.

Previous guests included the likes of Scott Kinamond (Shadyside), Jack Doyle (Wheeling Park), area officials Ray Marling and Jim Copney, Brian Davis (WLU), Sean Doyle (WJU), Dan Doyle (OVAC Tournament Director), as well as prominent national wrestling personalities.

Moreover, Rick Welker has become the voice of Wheeling Jesuit University wrestling. He is totally dedicated to the promotion Ohio Valley wrestling.

Rick and his wife Shelley have six children and reside in Wheeling.
