Tripke Qualifies for Nationals

HARTSVILLE, SC- Ohio Valley University's Wrestling program competed in the NCAA Super Region II this past weekend. The Fighting Scots were represented by seven wrestlers. Anthony Tripke was the highest finishing Fighting Scot who also finished in a national qualifier position. Tyler Koreski also placed fourth, good enough to be an alternate for nationals.
Anthony Tripke placed second in the 125-pound weight class. Tripke received a first-round bye and faced off against John Watts from Coker College. Tripke won the contest due to a tiebreaker. Tripke then advanced to the semifinal match and defeated James Sass from Limestone with a 13-7 decision. The first defeat for Triplke came in the 1st place match against UNC Pembroke's Nick Daggett due to a technical fall.
Tripke becomes the third wrestler to qualify for nationals from Ohio Valley, joining Chase Long in 2013 and 2015, and Dalton George in 2017 and 2018.
Tyler Koreski placed fourth in the 197-pound weight class due to a first-round bye. Koreski then won by 5-3 decision over Seth Bell from Emmanuel University. Clif-Steven Decius of Limestone defeated Koreski in the Semifinal round in a 5-4 decision. Koreski then bounced back against UNC Pembroke Marcus Montgomery in an 8-1 decision. Nick Weldon would go on to defeat Koreski in the 3rd place match in a major decision 10-0.
The two wrestlers will now prepare for the NCAA Division II National tournament in Cleveland, Ohio on March 8th.
