Re: Transfer Portal

I would assume if Cooley was transferring out he would be listed in the transfer portal, which he is not or hasn’t been. Wrestlestat still has plenty of guys who are in the transfer portal listed as being on the rosters they are transferring from. But to the point of Cooley being around for Rune’s f...

NHSCA'S

With the list of Champions and other podium finishers listed under WHATS NEW there is no need for me to list them out. Are there any thoughts on the NHSCA tournament this past weekend or those who participated in it? My initial thoughts and opinions are Stephen Myers is hands down pound for pound th...

Re: Transfer Portal

The 157 pound wrestler from Ohio University you are referring to is Peyton Kellar. I was unaware that he was in the transfer portal. This would be a surprise if it is true because he grew up about 30 from their campus and has attended their camps from a very young age. As a fan of that team, it woul...

Transfer Portal

Just seen where Tommy Askey, from App State, is in the transfer portal. He was a Round of 12 finisher this year at 157 pounds and has one more year of eligibility left. As much as I like Dowling, this would be an improvement at that spot and sandwiched in between Watters and Hall that might be enoug...

Re: WVU recruiting

Are you sure it’s because of money that they haven’t made coach McBride a full time coach? 184,197, and HWT didn’t qualify for NCAAs this year, whereas last year both Cooley and Wolfgram did. Maybe they aren’t getting the results that they are looking for with McBride and need a different big man c...

Re: NIL Money

I have been hearing some numbers for NIL that just seem ridiculous, I would love to know if these numbers are for real. Is there anyone who knows a wrestler personally or their family that can confirm some of these numbers? No need for names etc just confirmed NIL in dollars. I certainly do not kno...

Re: NIL Money

The biggest problem with the NIL system is that it is very loosely regulated and there are too many loopholes that don't protect the smaller schools from the larger schools who want to poach their athletes. The only way Ty Watters or any other rostered athlete should be allowed to be contacted by a ...

Re: WVU AD

Consistent top 15 is realistic, consistent top 10 is a big jump but doable with the lots of right kind of support, My idea there didn't come across very clear. It is possible to have a Top 15 consistently and break into the Top 10 from time to time. To consistently have a Top 10 team, that takes a ...

Re: WVU recruiting

I totally agree with the sentiment. It is only realistic to have 5-6 guys in the lineup that can contend for an All American finish, and the others to be qualifiers winning a match or two at the national tournament. This kind of lineup sound a lot like what they have Va. Tech and that aint so bad.

NIL Money

I think this could be a thread to have a legitimate discussion about and to inform others of the NIL deals being offered behind closed doors. I have heard from a couple of reliable sources, with direct knowledge, of just how much money some of the top athletes in NCAA wrestling are making on their N...

WVU AD

I have it on high authority that Wren Baker is a big fan of the WVMAT college wrestling forum. Not really, I made that up but lets hope he sees this. The coaching staff has proved they can produce better results than the resources given to them, doing a lot with a little if you will. It's time to st...

Re: NCAA d1

The last time WVU has had multiple All-Americans was 2005, and as a team they should finish inside the top 20. With any luck this will help with future recruits and transfers.

Re: NCAA d1

Jett’s knee was definitely hurting him, I hate to see him go 0-2 but it is what it is. Hopefully next year he makes the jump to 133 where he can concentrate more on wrestling and not on cutting weight. Titus has a tough path back to the Round of 12 and if he gets there he will probably have Brock Ha...

Re: WVU recruiting

I won’t say that I disagree with your idea because your premise is spot on. However, it’s just not recruiting kids that coaches have to worry about these days. Top talent is garnering big money from NIL deals and when it comes to money Penn State is a bottomless pit. With the rules set as they are, ...

Re: WVU recruiting

The number of guys on the roster has been an issue I've been contemplating on for a while. They will have 6 or 8 new freshmen coming in next year and I am sure they will be looking to pick up at least one or two guys from the transfer portal. As it is the coaches job to put the best team on the mat,...

Re: NCAA d1

Definitely a disappointing round. I felt like they all had winnable matches but the three losses were to good opponents. Titus had a close match victory over his guy very early in the year and Conley had already lost to his opponent early in the year as well. Let's hope they can come back through on...

Re: D II Brackets

Day one proved to be a better for the Pioneers than the Hill Toppers (whatever a Hill Topper is). The Glenville State Pioneers sent two to the semi finals and will be guaranteed a top 6, All-American finish. Gavin Quiocho once again finds himself in the hunt for another national title. If he makes i...

Re: NCAA d1

Two is optimistic but very possible...Watters and Hall both have a very chance to make the podium this year. It is the national tournament and unexpected things are going to happen. Out of the other three, I would put more money on Jett to be the third All American, but for him to have that good of ...

NCAA Brackets

Overall, I like the draws the WVU guys got for each of their weight classes. With all the parody in the 125 pound weight class, I think Jett fits right in and I like his chances to make the Round of 12. He definitely seems to wrestle better the deeper he gets into a tournament. Jordan Titus has beat...

D II Brackets

The D2 National tournament begins on Friday and finishes up on Saturday evening. Some items of note that I seen while scanning the brackets. 133: Gavin Quiocho of Glenville State gets the 3rd seed. Looks to have a very tough Semifinals match and even tougher Finals match. 149: Nico Taddy of West Lib...

Re: BIG12 Tournament

In his match with Edmond, they banged heads on a takedown attempt. Titus was able to get into a tie up until the ref blew the whistle for a stalemate, and on his way back to center of the mat he was stumbling and staggering pretty good. After a few minutes and concussion tests they wouldn't allow hi...

Re: BIG12 Tournament

The team has taken a clear jump this year. Years past most of the podium finishers were finishing in 7th and 8th place. This year WVU will have one finalist and five others placing in the top 6, and scoring more points than they have ever scored, no matter how you slice it that is a good improvement...

Re: Changes in WV Wrestling

Other good ways for guys to improve in the off season is by joining a club, if there is one close by. Getting in at least one or two good practices per week would go a long way. In a lot of areas throughout the state this option isn't available because of club dues and excessive travel, so trying to...

Re: AA/A Regional Champions Losing Thursday

Finally!!! A little reasoning. Now this is an argument that I might be able to get on board with. The "Power's To Be" have created an overly lopsided region. The results show that in order for a more balanced state of competition at the state wrestling tournament, we propose trading these ...
