Re: Preseason Rankings for aaa
Some of these look pretty good. However, I am not sure if anyone can accurately predict what weight class many of these wrestlers will actually complete at since we are less than 1 week into official practice.

Re: Super 32 Winning % by School
Why isn't that interesting? I believe Oak Glen had 1 wrestler in attendance. These pecentages have no analytical value, nor do they show any trend in terms of team strength. So I am curious what, in your opinion, is "interesting" about these percentages.

Re: Super 35
It's Super 32. The toughest folkstyle tournament in the country. Every weight class is insane! There is no "easier" weight class at this level. Its all about optimal performance weight for a tournament like this. It would be difficult to predict the placers in any weight class. Even the be...

In addition to those already mentioned, Stevie Mitchell, Will Kuhn, Mitchell Freeman, Isaac VanMeter, Mathew Jenkins, and Zach Anderson all come to mind. I'm not sure which division some of theses kids are in.

Gooch is at Wheeling Park. Nixon is an 8th Grader. Pretty comprehensive list, although you may have forgotten about a couple tough Moorefield Freshman.

Re: WV Black Bears
Beast, Thanks for the explanation. I think what you are doing is a great thing and will help WV kids if you get buy-in. Travis Phillips and I took a team several years ago ( I think my son was 100 To NUWAY National Duals in Columbus and it was a great experience. We have done other big duals and the...

Re: WV Black Bears
Out of curiosity, was the opportunity to be on this team posted someplace? Admittedly, I may have missed it. However, if you want more kids to be interested in this type of opportunity it is important to make sure it is well advertised. My son will be a freshman this year so I am not even sure if he...

Re: OHIO Tournament of Champions
Many wrestlers have other interests that prohibit them from going to TOC. This time of year many kids play travel baseball, rec baseball, or run track for their MS. Overspecializaation at a young age is a tremendous problem in sports. Some kids "prove" themselves all season wrestling in na...

Re: Wvywa 12 yr olds
So if the MS states would have been on the original date that was set up would 12 yr olds be able to do both states? I would assume they would, right? That is What they do in Ohio. 7th graders that on 12 on January 1st of that year may qualify and wrestle in the grade school state and the middle sch...

Re: WVYWA Selection Tournament
Can anyone show me in the WVYWA rules where the method of selection for the team WV duals team going to NHSCA in Virginia Beach is a tournament? I read the rules yesterday, and what Inread said that it will be based on state tournament placement. Maybe I missed it. And before anyone wants to start t...

Re: WVYWA Championship, Who will come!!
Quantity does not always mean quality or depth and I am am sure your state champion number of 95 percent is not even close to accurate. If you win WSAZ you don't get to say you are a state champion. I hope all the guaranteed "95 percent" show up in Huntington so we can see who the best ME ...

Re: WVYWA Championship, Who will come!!
I don't understand why people in certain parts of the state compare WSAZ to a state tournament? They aren't even close to the same. I am sure WSAZ is a good tourny. However, many very good wrestlers do not have the ability to attend, so why do people keep saying that it is considered by many as the ...

Re: WVYWA Selection Tournament
The best "date" for a qualifier would in my opinion be the state tournament. it's not to difficult to pick the best available based on state results. This qualifier is used as a money maker. You could charge a little or even have the participants do a fund raiser for the tournament. Team P...

Re: WVYWA Selection Tournament
I simply disagree with the method of selection. I live in the northern part of the state and anywhere else we can find good competition. We travel 5-6 hours away to compete. I also said earlier that my son wasn't interested anyway due to other commitments. I merely made the point that I didn't agree...

Re: WVYWA Selection Tournament
So travel all that way for two matches or less???? That makes sense. Take the best kids in the state to represent WV. Base it in state tournament results. There would be plenty of time considering states is on March. I feel as though this was not very well thought out. BTW, I have no dog in this fig...

Re: WVYWA Selection Tournament
Why was it decided that this would be the best way to determine who will represent WV at Virginia Beach? This tournament is a far Drive for almost everyone on a Sunday and has very few of the better wrestlers in the state registered. I am not knocking the kids enteeed, but the large majority of stat...

Re: State tournament solution for AAA
Ask the Cameron teams of the 90's if being a small school was a disadvantage! Its not always about size, but rather about the culture that you create as a coach and a community for your program.

You should probably at Shelek in the mix at 90 and Gooch at 123. Both don't wrestle for their middle school, but are multiple time state champs.

Re: State tournament solution for AAA
WV needs to divide into two divisions. Split the schools down the middle based on enrollment. Just because you are in AA in football, doesn't mean you have to be AA in wrestling. Most states, including Ohio work this way. For instance Steubenville, OH is division 4 in football and D2 in wrestling. T...

Re: Middle school predictions
Actually, to the contrary, Ohio County Middle School wrestlers would love to go to WSAZ. However, the county has a no overnight policy for all middle school activities. Last year we found a way to go through the board, but got snowed out! This year the large majority of our experienced kids have dec...
