Re: M.I.A. Where are they
mike.carman do you know Urban Meyer or are you one of his recruiters. Making it mandatory for football players to have to wrestle they wouldnt have much of a football team . Not one of his recruits. I was quoting an article he wrote a few years ago which showed a graph of who he recruits for his pr...

Re: M.I.A. Where are they
i think everyone has different experiences. But, sometimes kids like to blame other coaches and use this type of thing as an excuse to quit whatever sport. I know that i've had some kids say that kind of thing about me before. However, it doesn't hold a lot of weight especially since my boy wrestle...

Re: M.I.A. Where are they
I've met a few since I am a high school head football coach. I do not know one of them who try to get their kids to not wrestle or play other sports. a kid gets 4 years to be in high school and play sports and then never again. I think that maybe you are using your 2 examples to make generalized st...

Re: M.I.A. Where are they
well, football season is directly before wrestling season. And, I have never met 1 football coach who doesn't encourage their players to wrestle due to the aggressive nature of it. At least from my perspective, I believe you are grasping at straws on this one. You must not have met very many footba...

Re: GONE in 12 Seconds
It is very difficult for even an AAA school to fill 14 weight classes. That number should be reduced to 12 or even 10 like the NCAA. If you don’t want to reduce the number of high school weight classes, then at least change the points awarded for a forfeit. It always bothered me that a forfeit coun...

Forget the B teamers wrestling regionals. Go to 1 32 man bracket at the state tournament. Combine all classes A/AA/AAA and have 1 champion. Take top 8 from each region. You want competition, that is how you will get it. Also, no school should be able to send 2 representatives to the state tournament...

In this years 160 class 4 guys placed last year and Carman and Stewart could of placed if they were able to compete. This years 170 class only has 3 placers from last year. 160-4 returning placewinners 170-3 returning placewinners. Not a big differential. Close only counts in horseshoes and hand gr...

Minimum Wrestling Weight After being assessed for his minimum wrestling weight, the first time he/she wrestles at his/her minimum wrestling weight he/she must make base weight. All this bickering over Humphreys and Hubbard is pointless. That's why matches are wrestled. Final rankings will come out as the season progresses and we will know if they will wrestle or not. A lot of the kids need moved from one weight class to another. This is just a preliminary ranking.

I have had to deal with this rule for far too long. It is not ready and everyone assumes it says one thing and not something else. The Principals who authored it don't even know it exists.

There are no qualifications to enter the tournament, however you can qualify for early entry into the tournament by placing top 4 in your high school state tournament or being a previous super32 placer or placing top 4 at one of the early entry qualifying tournaments. There is a cap on the number of...

A while back everyone was in a snit about the re-alignment of the regions, so I did some number crunching on the subject and noticed something very interesting. Re: Strength of Regions AAA. Crunched the numbers
If you look at points scored by region at the AAA 2017 state tourney region 4 = 761.5 points region 1 = 394.5 points region 3 = 328 points region 2 = 231 points If you follow the trend though. As the Juniors and Seniors graduate out, these points should re-adjust and the younger wrestlers will plac...

It would be nice to hear something from the WVYWA or Mr Carman about the Sunday only wrestling. The information that I have received had been via Facebook and not with WVYWA's name stamped to it. Bottom line is last year had an like an 85% where number 1 met number 2 or 3. Those that did not were probably where number 1 met a runner up from same region and then your typical upsets do happen.
