Re: Regional Realignment
Add to the conspiracy theory, Dolan is a former teacher and assistant superintendent at Wheeling Park. ;) I tend to agree with J.W. and say the revenue sports dictate the decisions from the top. Also, if we use a points system for wins (like football) the better wrestlers are going to end up at the ...

Re: All class, why not
We can still keep our schools' classifications as A/AA/AAA but have 1 tournament. If there were only 4 regions and we put all the schools together, there would be 24 teams in each region. Now you have a 32 man bracket for the regional tournament and a means to allow JV wrestlers to qualify and go t...

We disagree on regional realignment (another thread
) but I agree with an all classes state tournament.
The A, AA, and AAA team titles can still be awarded and fans will see some excellent matches.

Re: Regional Realignment
Actually, we should do away with a state tournament all together, and just award medals to the ranked wrestlers. Nobody insinuated we should do away with the state tournament. Rankings are simply accurate measurements of previous results. My thoughts/hopes are that Varsity and JV wrestlers would se...

Re: Regional Realignment
I disagree with moving any teams in and out of regions. I say this in hopes there will be a different system than what we currently use. Make the season win/loss record more meaningful. Create rules that base head to head, common opponent, etc, and award points based on performance. What if a kid is...

Re: Regional Realignment
Getting back to the thread topic, Regional Realignment.... I think there are 2 sides. One side believes we should change it and balance the stronger teams. The other side believing regions change strengths and weakness as years pass, regardless of teams changing in and out. I agree that Wood County ...

Re: Regional Realignment
I firmly believe if you want the WVSSAC to listen, come up with a plan that gives them more money. Football and basketball are revenue sports.
Figure a way to make more money for the bosses and I bet they listen.

Re: REGION 4 DOMINATION
This topic has been around before. When Region 1 AAA and A/AA were dominating the state tournaments, the rest of the state did not mind the unfairness. I would like to see the BYE in the state tournament bracket fixed due to low numbers in a particular weight class. If there is a weight class in any...

The Williamstown Rumble hosts several AA/A teams this weekend.
Looking ahead the MSAC seems to be the next big headliner with important AAA match ups.

Re: Independence - 30 Days Out
We already have kids who transfer schools, legal or illegal. Over the years some of the best teams in the state had lineups with kids from out of zone. I do not think allowing JV kids will further tip the scales toward the powerhouse teams. I have been wrong many times and this might be another. Wou...

Re: Change Rules on Dual Meets Counting as Weigh Ins
The suggestion was based on increasing participation in the sport. More weekly duals might create better participation and excitement in the community. The peewee and middle school programs are also a large part of the Success equation. Coaches control their schedules and I think making a dual worth...

Re: Change Rules on Dual Meets Counting as Weigh Ins
Great post IndyHart, I agree. I went to a Coach's clinic at Edinboro in 2011 and Dan Gable was the main speaker. Gable and Baumgartner both warned coaches about the decline in participation due to length of tournaments. We are inadvertently pushing parents and kids from wrestling because of long day...

I believe Logan had 10-15 kids earlier in the season.
I have taken part in a lot of regional tournaments but never charged. It seems the host team sent invoices to some schools but not all.

Re: Questions Answered.....For Now
I am sorry I did not clarify my thoughts on an, All Classes Combined State Wrestling Tournament. I am commenting on wrestling only and do not want to compare apples to oranges. I thought it was great that the individual champions and top 10 finishers as a team were so balanced across AAA and A/AA. W...

Re: OVAC
In the MSAC the byes are equal or as close to equal as they can be. During the seeding meeting the coaches keep track of byes. Typically you want your best wrestlers wrestling instead of byes. You only receive advancement points for the bye if you win the following round. The bye does not allow your...

This was a great weekend of wrestling in Huntington. Good job to the staff and coaches at WSAZ. It was nice to see some out of state teams show up as well. There were a lot of great match ups in every class. It was nice to see the kids settling things on the mat. It will be interesting to see if the...

No let the press decide state championships
That made my day thank you Frank.
Seriously though, I was talking with another teacher today. He has taught for 30 years and coached football probably 20. We both agreed that club/travel team sports are more popular now than ever.

Re: WSAZ Seeds and Entries
In the past the staff who run the WSAZ tournament do the seeding. They will make phone calls to coaches if necessary or they need information not on WVMAT Scores. If a coach has a question about the seeding in a weight class concerning his wrestler the coach can contact the staff. They always made c...

Re: JV Trivia - Week Ending January 14th
Ok Bear I'll take the bait. I can see you are not going to ignore the JV situation. I also understand you want to see more participation in WV Wrestling. More wrestlers equal stronger dual matches/tournaments which equal better fan base etc. You are preaching to the wrong folks if you want to see a ...

I have been wrong before but I am willing to bet you can get into WSAZ's if you talk to someone on the phone. The guys who run WSAZ do a great job and I doubt they would tell teams no. The cost of the arena and officials is not cheap.
