Re: Dutton Award 2019
I'd have to say right now Lanham would be the front runner. As a runner up he lost to last years Dutton winner on Simpkins. Came out of a very tough region and beat the same kids in the state tournament.

I'd like to wish all of the participants today good luck. Yes these are unusual circumstances but for some of the seniors this is their last chance to step on the mat. Make the best of it!!!!

Darren Gilphilen from St.Albans. may have spelled the last name wrong but he has taken a program from the bottom to one of yge states elite AAA programs. He deserves credit for that.

Re: AAA OW & Coach of the Year
Pines win was impressive but of the weight classes wrestled so far you can't over look Caleb Haynes run at 138. This freshmen beat 2 finalists from last year who just happened to have both beaten him earlier in the season. I've followed the state tournament for over 20 years and he had one of the mo...

Re: Petersburg Rises Up!
I think one of the best stories that has not been mentioned in the AA race was Petersburg's 3rd place finish. On January 12th, they were not even on the ranking radar and was never ranked higher than 7th. They ended up a solid 3rd behind champion Indy and East Fairmont. Congratulations to coaches W...

Re: 2nd state tournament schedule
I was in Huntington from Thursday until Saturday. I Vought my son and I tickets each time we entered just in case I didn't go to all sessions. The young man we were with made the finals so we didn't go to the Saturday morning session so we could stay with him while he rested. So now if I want to go ...

Re: Dutton award winner ?
If it were any other year Jacob Hart would win the Dutton hands down. This year, however you have one of the best wrestlers to ever come out of this state in Noah Adams. His in state accomplishments plus his success on a national and with the Pan Am games, an international level puts him in a class ...

Re: AAA 160 - Unlike Any Other
This is a class I'm looking forward to watching. My pick is Milam. He has came back this year looking hungry and strong. His WSAZ championship over a Kentucky State champ was quite impressive. I'm know how good Pine and Nash are but I've watched Milam since youth league and when he's focused he's ha...

It seemed as if your comments encouraged the inference that he was somehow trying to avoid "the man" by moving from 182 to 195, which obviously is not true given the person who was #1 at the time of the move. If that's not what you meant, then I apologize. On a related note, it is interes...

Re: Bigger Might Be Better?????
To be the MAN you need to beat the MAN And both of those boys have done so. The one who moved to heavy weight completely and totally flat out side stepped THE MAN. I'm guessing he absolutely wanted no part of him after the incident a few years ago that cost THE MAN the honor of being a 4 time state...

Yikes. Several weight classes with only 5-6 kids. Heck I think the biggest weight class may have 7 kids in it. Found a couple with only 4 kids. So everyone qualifies for states in that weight class as along as they make weight. Hopefully the WVSSAC sees this and changes are made for next yea...
