Re: HUNTINGTON / CABELL MIDLAND MATCH
Yep, sure did! My post was no reflection on South just pointing out how sometimes rankings, etc. get thrown out the window in rivalry matches.

Re: HUNTINGTON / CABELL MIDLAND MATCH
It's a curse! HHS always seems to have Midland's number ... No matter the coach, wrestlers, location, etc. I remember way back in the late 90's when Midland was ranked 1st in the state , they went to South and handed the Patriots their first home loss in like a dozen years 42-30. This was despite th...

Re: JV Wrestlers
The key to being able to do what we did was a supportive administration and great parents. We often sent our Varsity and JV squads to different tournaments on the same weekend, thus requiring two entry fees instead of one. Our administration ponied up the money for this without a problem. I know of ...

Re: JV Wrestlers
To answer your question, Bearhugger, no, but I have had the reverse happen twice. My Milton teams actually lost two events over the years because my JV guys beat my varsity guys. I just looked at it as the Old Coach had the wrong guy starting. Our mantra was always to do everything we could to make ...

Re: P I L L
Agree completely Dunbar76 - you should try attending the Middle School seeding meeting for WSAZ. 35-40 coaches crammed into a small room all proud of their kids and all trying to talk at once. Some of those self servers you mentioned show up with zero documentation as to their kids wins and losses. ...

Re: Middle School Poll??
The middle school coaches do indeed vote on it. This time of the season it is usually quite inaccurate because we have very little in terms of results to go on. Some coaches/Scorers do not send in results, some put them in the forum instead of submitting in the form Doc has set up, etc. As the year ...

Re: AAA Team Poll
Then there was that game where "virtually unbeatable" WVU team lost to Pitt .... On any given day, injuries, outside problems, grade issues, etc. Kids can sometimes wrestle over their expected placing .... Anything can happen. I once had a kid who barely had a break even record, was not se...

Re: Wrestling in College
Thak you Coach Doyle and supercracker, you both explained quite eloquently the points I was trying to get across and did it much better. I guess it could all be summed up by saying find a school you can afford that offers the academics you need and the wrestling you want to do. Also be aware that it...

Re: Wrestling in College
Good point Bearhugger. One other thing to be realistic about is the less than 2% of high school athletes will recieve college scholarship money. Not saying your son can't do it but unless he is a real prodigy, starting for Iowa or Penn State may not be in his future. Many smaller schools offer a gre...

Re: Wrestling in College
One last tip - when deciding to look at schools be aware that very, very few wrestlers get a full ride and go free. Example, An accomplished wrestler on the national level and multi time state champ that I know got one of the best deals available last year - it still costs his parents 7K per year bu...

Re: Top Middle School Wrestlers this Season
On the subject of sixth graders placing at WSAZ, etc. - In my last three years at Milton if my old memory serves I had the following from 6th graders - 3 champs (Grass, Allen, Mitchell), 1 second, 4 thirds, 3 fifths, 1 sixth, 2 sevenths, 4 eighths. Yes they do place there quite frequently - more oft...

Re: huntington results ?
Some forfeits may be weights not yet met, not enough practices, paperwork snafus, or football guys who do not have all their paractices in yet. I know Midland had some guys missing at their quad due to football and Ripley had one guy not make weight. It's early yet. I only suggested the newspaper be...

Re: huntington results ?
They were in the Herald Dispatch this morning. Southfan you can read the paper online for free. Might give that a try. Doc is too modest not only has a "day job" but his day job is really being a Doc. We as coaches can either stick the results in the forum in which case they go up quickly ...

It was the NFHS broadcast we did at the State last year and Doc had the Twitter feed going. I can tell you though, it's a task and a half.

Re: WSAZ ON TV
I did the TV broadcast on the internet of the state tournament last year, along with one other broadcaster. It was virtually an impossible task. We just had to each talk about one of the matches going on - I did AAA and Caoch Holley did AA-A. All the mats were shown though and we had to constantly t...

Re: Huntington Vs. Independence
Indy winning handily. Notable - Grass did not wrestle, Jeffers wins a wild one 10-9 over Gibson, Cox pins Haddox, Clifton beats Allen 6-2 @ 145 (Allen most likely will be 132 though) - Humphries tech falls Hart 17-0 , Murphy (H) wins by tech fall- Lots of forfeits for Huntington. Childers wins by fa...

Re: Huntington Vs. Independence
From the talk around town look for Huntington to have a very makeshift lineup with several kids out due to football, injuries, etc. many will not be in the weight classes where they will eventually land. I opine that Indy will be victorious by a substantial margin tonight since they have a fine team...

Great news! Please post some info on the where and when for the Thundering Herd Duals - I'll make sure Doc knows to put it on the front page. We as a wrestling community need to get out and support these guys to help the program grow.

You are right Doc, as usual. I just read it wrong. That would indeed be a nightmare. I remember back when Brent used to do the "Who's Who", I actually sat down and attempted it once. You run into A beat B but B beat C and C beat A then B moved to a different weight and A is injured but he ...

Re: Wrestler Fan poll?
Seek and ye shall find! LOL Look on the front page, right hand side near the bottom. It's been there for a couple of years but kind of hard to see. Sometimes though one kid gets on there from a school that would never be ranked, keeps erasing his cookies and voting over and over.
