Re: AA/A 106 Rankings Oversight
Just .02 more on this hotly debated and interesting topic. The wrestler who was the topic of the post wrestled at 106 - the smallest weight class. Imagine, if you will, a similar talented wrestler in a class other than 106. Said wrestler can perhaps safely move up or down a weight class to crack the...

Re: For the success of WV wrestling in general
Very good points, Tim. It does have to be tempered with present abilty as well in my humble opinion. In short, unless you are one of the very best kids from WV, Fargo may not do you as much good as a camp. Case in point, one of the kids who went to Fargo with us back when my son was wrestling was, i...

Re: Favorite wrestling memory
Over my 27 year career I visited some fantastic hospitality rooms! No, Seriously- I was, of course, coaching middle school and had no heavyweight. I was a teacher so I walked the halls looking for big kids. I found one shy, sort of doughy looking kid. I asked " Ever thought of wrestling? We rea...

Re: Forfeits in AAA
Just my .02 - We run 64 man brackets in both middle and high school at the WSAZ in the same building. We do this in two days and the state tournament is three days. It would seem to this old coach that a 32 man follow the leader bracket with all schools entering would be possible. You could still ha...

Re: Just wondering
Not sure on this as it stands now but when I retired the wrestler also needed written permission from their principal and the event could not be on the same day as the school team either varsity or JV was competing. Example - the Milton Mudcats varsity is wrestling at Apache Wells high school but th...

Re: Just wondering
Me too! I got turned in way back when for coaching my own son at a Christmas tournament by a coach bitten by the "can't beat Milton so let's screw the coaches kid" bug! He was in 7th grade and on my team. The bad part was Ken Chertow was actually coaching him when he had his Olympian schoo...

Re: Should Forfeits count?
Forfeits are counted in the five match rule ( at least up until I retired). Several times I ran into events out of state where if we had a kid reach his five match limit - ex.lose first match then fight all the way back in a 16 man they had to stop wrestling. In some states (we ran into this a lot i...

Re: Top 5 wrestlers
Our scenario was all monies raised went to an athletic boosters account and they got to decide how it got spent. The very last time I held a tournament we cleared about 7 grand. They spent most of it to send the cheerleaders to camp. We got a new flip chart for score, mat tape and some bleach. Every...

Re: T J Lambiotte
That could be the kiss of death for South if they get all those byes. Happened to me for years in middle school. One year I had 13 starting kids out of 15 get byes in our conference tournament who therefore could not score (along with 6 JV kids with byes who could not knock anyone else out of scorin...

I do see your point but since I choose to use it then those are the rules. We get it free, without annoying pop ups and ads, invitations to play senseless games, political diatribes and cute puppy pictures, so I feel we should follow Doc's guidelines. I see your point but in 30 years of coaching, I ...

Me too, I remember when he was always hanging with the Monster Garage guys. Great kid, I gotta pull for Whitmore since I'm a Midland guy but whatever happens, I hope that side of the bracket wins it all.

Reminds me of a time I sent my varsity to Philo, OH and my JV went to a tournament at Horace Mann Middle in Kanawha Co. They won it and we did not notice until we got back to school that both team and individual awards called it the Horse Man Invitational. I have the photos to prove it! LOL

Actually, every match I ever coached is in a lot of those books and on CD's in case the computer crashes. Retired all these years but you never know when you need to whip out the "Big Book!" LOL.

Re: WVSSAC needs to require uniform results reporting
It would be nice to see a spreadsheet of all qualifiers with schools, grade in school, win/loss record, etc. then when the pill is drawn we could whip out our own brackets. I would also love to see standardized software used.

Noticed the 126 had less than 20 matches so there is a good possibility he has been either ill or injured. Makes sense to "maneuver" to this old coach.

Yes, especially on my iPad and Iphones. Seems to do it less on the desktop (Win7). I had typed out a long reply to a post and then when I tried to submit it, it refused to connect. When I refreshed it, it connected but my reply was gone. I will copy it before I hit submit from now on.
