Re: Wrestling vs. Football - Post Season Play
Every sport is different. The other sports have a regional format, and in softball for example, only 4 teams make it to "states" in Vienna. I'm quite sure that the four regional champs are not necessarily the four best teams every year for every class. For Volleyball and Basketball, it's 8...

The Clan from Coal City invades the Tar Heel State Saturday morning to defend their Lake Norman Duals title for yet another year. Champions in 2015 and again in 2016. I will be in attendance and posting video on my website for those of you who want to view. See the action on Bearhugger.com I am sur...

Re: Nationals at Va Beach
Logan R is going (Senior division is obviously tough at every weight, but we like that trip, so what the heck 8-) ), and I think Cales is going too, I'm not sure who else from West is going. I know some of them are planning on the duals, which is my favorite tournament to go to, but Logan's graduati...

Re: Time for 3 classes
I believe swimming has one class. Possibly boxing, MMA cage fighting, curling and ping pong too. ;) Wait...we have Curling????? 8-) For people arguing for one class...look at college. What if college only had one class, and schools like WLU, WJU, AB, and WVIT had to compete with wrestlers from WVU,...

A Big Thanks to some great guys/coaches
My son Logan R has had an awesome high school career, with mostly ups, and just a few downs here and there. Yeah, there are kids that have had better careers, but there are a lot more that would love to have been where he's been and never made it. The last month of this, his senior season, was prett...

Re: New Regions AAA - WOW
Depending on what the AA/A regions look like I heard a AA/A has contemplated wrestling up into AAA. Now that would be interesting!!! I wonder if they still allow that? I know that Williamson did it back in the 90's in basketball (for example, the year G. West beat them in the championship game :twi...

Re: Has WV wrestling gone downhill as a whole?
I agree that the depth may be lacking, but I think the top kids are pretty good. But I may be biased. It seems to me that you don't have as many "intermediate" kids as there used to be, but maybe it's just a perception thing. I also agree that it's somewhat disrespectful to those that work...

Re: WSAZ Upsets BEFORE the Finals
I'm a little upset that I'm being charged for a room tonight because I didn't find out the tournament was cancelled until just after the deadline of 4:00. In addition to being upset about the cancellation in general, that is.

We were on our way. We just planned on staying till Sunday.
And to whoever suggested rescheduling, I'm sure the arena didn't have any open weekends, these things are scheduled a year in advance.

Re: WSAZ High School Tournament CANCELLED
Really bad for all the Seniors that have prepared hard for this tournament. Everyone would have been in town before storm really hit. If kids are transported by parents I think it should be their decision as to whether the kids wrestle, not the school. This is a completely different situation than ...

He got hit in the head last weekend and had "concussion-like" symptoms. Hopefully he'll be back next weekend.

Sorry, I wasn't offended, but looking at my post I could understand how it might look that way. I was just kidding, I thought the smiley would convey that. Re: West Virginia Army National Guard Duals Wrestling Tournament Pools
Tru Dat. One of their coaches told one of our coaches that they have almost 4000 students. I'm not sure 4000 students have graduated from West since I graduated (and that was a longggg time ago...). Actually, doing the math, it's probably close. Thirty years with probably an average of 100 to 120 ki...

Re: Forfeits
I don't see the benefit of having different weight classes than the national standard (and thus every other state). How would any team goo out of state to wrestle? Or, how would a tournament like the guard duals or wsaz get teams from out of state? Duals are fun to watch, but I just look at them as ...

Re: Rankings are trash
I think that 2 AA/A Region 4 heavyweights, Cales of Greenbrier West and Heath of Indy will be near the top of the rankings before too long. I know Heath has had a few quality wins, albeit out of state, and it appears Cales has not had many matches yet (not sure if he is injured). Cales wrestled at ...

Re: Rankings are trash
Gator,
They wrestled at Braxton last year in the finals, Logan won 7-2 (maybe 9-2? 9-4? something in that ballpark, my memory is shot). They wrestled for third at the Z's, and Logan won 4-2 in a very tight match. They will probably meet next week at Braxton, and then possibly at Z's again.

Dr. Miller, You are correct. Again, I only noticed that one because I have a "little" personal interest in that particular situation 8-) , and also again, it's not a big deal, it all works out in the end. They will probably wrestle next weekend, it should be a good one. I shouldn't even ha...

Oh, OK. I thought we were still having the A/AA tournament this year, my bad
An interesting discussion would be, starting next year, when there are more than twice as many A/AA schools as AAA schools, which will be harder to place in?

I don't know about trash, and I know they don't really mean anything, they change during the season, etc. And Lord knows I wouldn't even want to attempt it, much respect to the time that gets put into it. But, they do mean something to some of the wrestlers. I'm not sure how you can beat no. 3 and 4...

Yup, some coaches bump wrestlers all over the place in duals looking for better matchups, forfeits, or whatever.
