Re: South’s Gage Wright commits to Virginia Tech

I think this is a good fit for Gage. He will be able to give 100% focus on school and wrestling and with Jared Haught as a coach and practice partner, I expect to see him have a very nice career in Blacksburg. Congratulations to Gage and best of luck. Gage must want to win. This post is so disingen...

Re: WVU lands top PA recruit

This is a fantastic commitment for the Mountaineers. I think the addition of Rune will almost certainly lead to another big commitment at either 184 or HWT in the next year or two. With Jordan Titus being in the bottom end of the lineup, Ty Watters and Brody Conley being more in the middle of the l...

Re: Iowa/ Iowa State gambling investigation

I have seen very little about this and there probably will not be much more reported on this. I am interested in two things about this story; 1.) I am interested in knowing if the students involved have NIL deals and how large those deals are. 2.) I wonder if any of these students are tied to and be...

Re: Proposed College wrestling rule changes

One of the new rule changes that will have a positive impact is a two-hour weigh-in across the board. The current rule is a two-hour weigh in for tournaments and a one-hour weigh in for dual matches. The new rule will instate a two-hour weigh in for dual meets. This will help those guys who struggle...

Re: Proposed College wrestling rule changes

I don't always agree with Jon Perkins but I think his analysis is pretty spot on here. The PROPOSED changes made will not make collegiate folkstyle wrestling better. It will likely make it worse to watch. Bottom guys are going to stall with a lead. the 3 point takedown is going to discourage risk t...

Re: WVU 2024

These are all good points and I will not argue with any of them. This was the purpose of my post, what does this coaching staff have to do to gain local fan support in order to raise the funds necessary to further the program. From what I have seen is the few fundraising opportunities they have do ...

Re: Proposed College wrestling rule changes

Folkstyle wrestling is about being able to control your opponent and I think some of the proposed rule changes are counter intuitive to that idea. The whole concept of being able to control your opponent means that there is going to be a lot of mat wrestling and at times it is going to get boring wh...

Re: N.I.L.

Very good input there. The main concern I have, and every other wrestling fan should have, is why are they spending so much money on other sports and not the wrestling team? And why is the wrestling team not represented on the advisory board? If this trust was established to help all athletes, which...

Re: WVU 2024

Tudors actually has an NIL deal with the offensive line for the football team. So sponsoring the heavyweight would fit in that realm. I suppose they can always use that for an excuse when they get called with a false starting penalty. They can tell the coach that it wasn't their fault, they had eat...

Re: WVU 2024

This may seem like a dumb question, but if the college wrestling season is essentially from October through March, or 6 months, then what does the coach get paid to do with the wrestlers for the other 50% of the year that they're getting paid for. And please don't say recruiting or fundraising. I s...

Re: N.I.L.

So one question would be, who is becoming wealthier, the collective and those involved or the athletes the NIL idea was supposedly developed for? If you go to their site, it says that 100% of the money goes toward the athletes. I don't see how that can be if they are an LLC, if 100% of the money we...

Re: N.I.L.

I wonder if discontinuing the wrestling program has been considered. It sounds so …. Hopeless. The Country Roads Trust would have nothing to do with that decision. It is a completely separate entity. It is just not WVU’s collective group, the majority of these collectives do not spend a lot of mone...

Re: N.I.L.

The NIL deals are in fact the dirty little secrets of NCAA wrestling. How much are the athletes getting paid and who is paying them? Not many people can speak with certainty on the NIL deals. If you pay close enough attention one can put a few things together to get a better understanding, not a cle...

Re: WVU 2024

I could be wrong, but I thought the participation in Freestyle & Greco were higher last year than in years past. The results were not much better, but the participation was up. A strong RTC can take a mid-level team like WVU to a Top 10 or Top 15 team, but again it takes funding and where are th...

Re: WVU 2024

WVU got a commitment today from Logan Sallot, finished 3rd in Pennsylvania as a senior , should be 125 for a few years Logan had actually committed before the season started this past year and withdrew his commitment at some point and time. I have seen where he recently committed to Lock Haven. WVU...

Re: WVU 2024

Jon, Flynn and his coaching staff doesn't put much effort in fund raising for the wrestling team. They have a hard time reaching out to donors and don't care much for talking with a lot of fans or people. That is one thing I liked about Henson. I would hire Henson today as a PR guy because he could...

Re: WVU 2024

As an alumnus, there is nothing I love more than to discuss WVU sports. But with a 13th place finish in the Big 12 tournament and only one All-American (8th place finisher), I have no reason to believe that year 6 of this coaching staff will yield any better results than years 1-5. I hope the new A...

Re: WVU 2024

The next few weeks will be full of guys entering the transfer portal and possibly picking up some last-minute recruits. It will be really hard to predict a lineup until probably June. Other than Cardinale at 125 and Joll at 174, look for the lineup to stay close the same. I predict that Flynn & ...

Josh has looked great the whole tournament. Sad to see him come up short in the semis but O’Conner is just plain tough and stingy. Two more matches for Josh tomorrow and I wish him the best of luck.

NCAA Tournament

Killian is looking good, I think he has it in him to beat Ramos to make semifinals. If not his round of 12 match looks manageable to make the podium. Jordan Titus wrestled a great match this evening beating a Top 10 guy that has beaten him earlier in the year. His next two matches will be against gu...

Doya, Brody Conley ended his HS career by winning 119 matches, 2 OH state titles, and 1 Ironman championship. Ty Watters is a Super 32 finalist and a 2 time PA state champion. Both were well within being a Top 35 recruit in the country. If you don’t like term “high level” may you you just prefer to ...
