At a quad. Wrester A wrestles wrestler B and wrestler C. But injury forfeits against wrestler D. I’m seeding criteria for an upcoming tournament who has the seeding at said tournament A or D? Wrestler A has beat wrestler D once this season.

Did wrestler A begin to wrestle the match against wrestler D? or Did team A not even present wrestler A when facing Team D?

I noticed a similar situation in a recent high school event. If wrestler A wrestled well all day, did not appear to have any injury but simply did not take the mat IMO it should absolutely factor into the seeding criteria for future (in this case the regional) tournaments. Although my opinion does not count for much. I will be interested in the responses of those who know the official criteria in this situation.
Additionally if a coach/wrestler can use it to their advantage something needs changed.

Wrestler A wrestled twice and was not injured before wrestling wrestler D. He never began to wrestle wrestler D.

There is no such thing as an injury forfiet. If wrestler A is injured during the match with Wrestler D, Wrestler D wins by injury default and records that as a win in a win-loss record. In this case, Wrestler A records a loss as well.

If Wrestler A never steps on the mat, for whatever reason, it is a forfiet. Wrestler D gets a win but Wrestler A does not get a loss. This assumes a dual match, meaning not an individual bracket tournament.

As far as seeding goes at future tournament, that would depend on a number of factors. Seeding rules/formulas are not covered by the NFHS rule book.

I wouldn't count an injury default against Wrestler A if he/she is a clearly ahead of Wrester D in all other criteria. Say , Wrester A is a defending state champ and gets hurt in the march with Wrestler D (assuming not an illegal move or anything). I wouldn't let Wrestler D jump Wrester A in the seeding only because of a head to head matchup.

If a wrestler begins a match and gets injured and cannot continue, that’s an injury default and counts as a loss for seeding purposes.

If in a dual a coach does not send a wrestler out for a certain weight class, that’s simply a forfeit. It’s not associated with any particular wrestler and certainly doesn’t count as a loss for any wrestler.

Seeding doesn't matter. All that matters is who is standing on top on Saturday night!

We should assign every wrestler a letter of the alphabet. Then have 3 to 5 different versions of a pill to use.

If Joe Jones is assigned the letter "M", and pill version 4 is selected, then Joe gets slotted where pill 4 assigned M.

I mean, nothing matters. Why waste time seeding? Why have a follow up coaches meeting after weigh ins?
