Suspicion

For the sake of this topic, there are two kinds of wrestlers. Perhaps a small minority makes up a third kind.

1. Wrestlers who begin the season in the weight class that they finish the season in.

2. Wrestlers who begin the season heavier and take weeks to months to get into their final regional/state tournament weight class.

3. Kids that have to wrestle up because of a teammate they cannot beat out. As the team gets their act together, wrestlers can move around.

Over the course of this season, there have been many returning state qualifiers that have had less than desirable seasons. Some have failed to qualify for the state tournament this season. Many of these same wrestlers spent half of the season getting down to their final weight class.

This is a sign of getting too out of shape in the off season.

There will be 28 state champions determined in two weeks.

I will be curious to see how many of these state champions were at their current state tournament weight on day 1 or by mid December versus making their final weight class sometime in mid-January or later.

We shall see. More in two weeks.

Good luck to all.
