Round one at the WSAZ will probably have many quick pins like this too. Those JV guys are hungry. I expect some upsets.

Surely the moderators are going to remove Gator's post. It's an obvious attempt to humiliate and berate an old man in front of a young audience. Wait, did I say attempt?

Old man vs old man! ;) Fair fight! :D

This kinda highlights my only issue with this tournament and I do not believe it would have changed the overall outcome, but why did University have 5 byes in the first round and PS have one. For that matter, Steubenville also only have one bye and Beaver Local had 3. I am uncertain of how exactly how this is scored for team points, but I can't imagine there are bonus points earned for advancement when a bye is involved. It puts the team with significantly more byes behind the eight ball.

That IS a good question. We are probably going to see the same issues at the state tournament this year. I'm not sure what or who decides the byes(unless it's the seeding). Should be more balanced though. Good thought!

I agree with you Gator, but much harder to do with the State Tournament as those byes will be slid into the pill. So the top guy from a region is the one likely to have the bye. Clearly, this is more likely to effect teams like Park South and Independence or teams with lots of regions champs.

I think this is how it goes. Once the 12 seeded wrestlers are in the bracket, all the remaining wrestlers are placed by a blind draw. Every bracket is filled in the exact same manner. The first unseeded wrestler drawn goes against the #1 seed, the second unseeded wrestler drawn goes against the #3 seed, the fourth unseeded goes against the #4 seed, and so on. So basically you get rewarded with a first round match if you are seeded wrestler

In the MSAC the byes are equal or as close to equal as they can be. During the seeding meeting the coaches keep track of byes.
Typically you want your best wrestlers wrestling instead of byes. You only receive advancement points for the bye if you win the following round. The bye does not allow your kid to score bonus points (major decision, tech fall, fall).

The designate certain lines as bye lines and after the seeded wrestlers are placed they fill the rest of the bracket in by winning percentage. The more seeds you have the less byes you will have in the opening round.

Top seeded wrestlers do not automatically receive BYEs, BYEs are randomly drawn or placed by mutual consent. If the top seeds received BYES without the opportunity to score bonus points, then no one would want to be top seed.
i.e. A seven man bracket with one bye. If the top seed automatically receives a BYE, wouldn't you rather be 2nd seed and wrestle someone to get the bonus points?

The basic process on drawing brackets is:
1. place seeded wrestlers.
2. randomly draw byes by quarter bracket/half-bracket. (or by mutual consent)
3. randomly place remaining wrestlers.

Here is how the rule book read at one time. I believe it is still accurate. I have not read this years rulebook but I do not recall seeing any rulebook changes on it.

I was impressed with how well the Tournament was seeded. You could tell that a lot of time and effort was put into it.

Thanks to all of the individuals who make this great tournament a success every year!
