This year was not the first time the tournament was delayed.
Forty years ago the State Wrestling Tournament was delayed one week due to water problems in Fairmont. The Tournament was moved to Parkersburg and started one week later than originally planned.

That was my Sophomore year in high school and my first state tournament. Less than 900 fans attended. Wow! Wirt County won the state that year.

It was my senior year & from what I remember there wasn't an empty seat in the place for the finals.

I was looking back 50 years ago when it was held in Parkersburg. South's first year of existence.

Hmmmm. completely dominated by Region 1....Someone post all the articles complaining about the strength of R1
top 6 teams from RI, 7 out of the top 10 R1 teams
every class won by a R1 wrestler
37 of the 48 placers were from R1

Yeah it was around back then. Gator was on the committee that invented it. He wanted a sport that south could be competitive in and all his neighbors could brag about.

All though his first form of wrestling did take off as well as folk wrestling. Mainly because Gator wrestling is just too easy
