Could someone please explain to me how team scoring worked? I was thoroughly baffled the entire time.

16 pts first place
12 pts 2nd place
9 points 3rd
7 points 4th
5 points 5th
3 points 6th
You also get advancement points 2 pts for the championship bracket, and 1 point for the consolation bracket.

You also could get bonus points
maj decision 1.5 pts
tech fall 1.5
fall 2 pts

How exactly were you baffled?

Major decision is only 1 point. I think that was just a mistake on the post. The tournament program relays the correct points.

Typically in bracketed tournaments team scoring is done the same as in a dual. 6 points for a pin, 5 for a tech fall, 4 for a maj decision and 3 for a decision. I have never heard of team scoring like this before. Nobody around me that I asked about it knew how it worked either, so I wasn't alone.

Thanks Doc. I was brought up around high school tournaments and know many people that have run them. Hopefully those guys can learn something by clicking on the link.

Actually I'm confused over this statement. I have never seen a bracket tournament score as you mentioned above. Those scores are for dual matches. Maybe if it's a dual match bracket tournament. But if it's a true bracketed tournament and they are scored as you mentioned above, someone is scoring it wrong and messed with the program.

All you have to do is click on the link. It comes straight from the rule book. I have known all of the point totals and advancement point totals since I was 12. I have family that directed middle school and large high school tournaments for over 25 years. If you look at the state tournament, it is scored exactly that way. I'm sorry if you were confused or mistaken, but now you know how to score a tournament. All you have to do is look at a rule book or click on the link and it will confirm what I said.

I didn't say it is never done, I just haven't been privy to it happening. I typically don't pay much attention to team scoring at bracketed tournaments since my kids have always been on teams with empty weight classes that were never going to be in the running for team competition anyway. I have also never ran a bracketed tournament, so again...no familiarity with it. That is why I asked for the info.

I also want to add that this was a really well run tournament. With the magnitude of wrestlers that were in attendance it is easy for things to get messed up. This meet went extremely smooth and was well organized. Kudos.
