Old State JR High tournament

Postby Jbee » Sat Mar 18, 2017 9:19 am

Does anyone remember the Old State JR High Tournament that used to be held in Huntington. probably towards the end of February or first of March each year.
It was ran by Bill Archer and took place in Marshall's old fieldhouse.
It was not a bracketed tournament. it was randon draw the day of.
It was based on a point system for losses....guy with least points was crowned your winner.
example wrestler A was 5 and 0 = 0 points, wrestler B was 4-1(loss was a decision)=1/2 point.
I think the points where. loss by dec=1/2pt, byMD=1pt, SD=1.5pts and by pin was 2pts against you.
If I remember correctly once you got to 3 points you were out(2 match guarantee).
There would be anywhere from 15 to 24 kids in each class, one day tournament. I dont think team scores where kept.
I think the most matches you would wrestle was 5 then you were placed by the points.
