Wheeling Jesuit wrestling - incredible

Postby aacoach61 » Tue Mar 12, 2019 11:26 pm

Five D2 All Americans, including two national champions. Coach Dan Irvin selected as D2 National Coach of the Year in only his second year. Incredible year for Wheeling Jesuit University.

But also last week, Wheeling Jesuit announced that is was in financial distress as an institution. That’s an unusual and ominous announcement.

I hope it doesn’t affect their athletic programs.

Congratulations to the coaches and wrestlers. Now how long before wrestlers find themselves on the transfer portal jumping ship before it sinks?
Before forthekids or one of the other passive agressive types on this forum jump me I am not hoping that wju closes the doors. The school should be a blue print for division ii wrestling success and I hope the diocese bails them out but if the School is closing then the wrestlers need to be immediately thinking about where credits will transfer and financing the remainder of their education. The returning all Americans should have an easier time than the others. I wish them all well.

Does not look good. Hearing that all of the starters have entered the transfer portal. If it is over does the division 2 national coach of the year stay local and take over at West Liberty?

Smith was a great coach to have in your corner. Knows the rules better than the refs. and quick to challenge when needed. still hard to believe he quit. He was building a program with new recruits lured to West Liberty with promises of great things.

Fairmont State needs a coach and wrestlers. Load up WJU's crew and ship them over.

Todays news says, all sports remain at WJU. I still think there top wrestlers would be an asset to WVU. Tip for the day, dont believe everything you read.

Reading that WJU Head Coach just left for West Lib. Is this news safe to believe Lefty?

Good point, maybe we shouldnt believe anything we hear and only half of what we read at best. I do regret the instability that has arose in both d2 programs in wheeling for the wrestlers.
