Six Olympian Wrestlers Win Tournament of Champions
Sixteen wrestlers from Ken Chertow's Olympian Wrestling School competed in
the tournament of Champions at the Columbus Convention Center in
Columbus, Ohio. 2600 wrestlers from 15 states competed in this AAU
sanctioned event, the largest one day wrestling tournament in the
nation.Wrestlers had to qualify for the Tournament of champions by
placing in the top 3 in qualifying tournaments earlier in the season.
The Olympian school placed 13 of their 16 entrants in the top 5,
including 6 champions.
The champions were:
- Seth Easter 55lbs 8 & under
- Mitch Smith 85 lbs 12 & under
- Matt Easter 70 lbs 14 & under
- Robbie Ripley 85 lbs 14 & under
- Chris Johnson 90 lbs 16 & under
- Jason Ward 165 lbs 18 & under
These six champions combined for a 31-0 record, as they dominated their
competition winning 24 of thei 31 matches by pin or technical fall.
Finishing 2nd were Alex Reed, Anthoy Easter, Anthony Hall and Heath
Graley. Adam Schindler was 3rd and Justin Brown was 4th, while Jared
Walters and Paul Brooks were 5th.
This concludes the scholastic style season and the Olympian Wrestlers
will now turn their attention to Olympic Style Freestyle competition.
