Leading 28-27 going into the final match, South lost an exciting dual to Grundy Virginia as South's Josh Middleton was pinned by Virginia Defending State Champ Luke Owens. One of the more exciting matches of the night was when South's Mike Davis (160) nearly pinned another defending state champ, Donnie Bishop. Bishop managed to hold on and then turn Davis in time to pin him literally as the buzzer sounded.
