29th Annual West Virginia State Wrestling Tournament - AAA

1976 was the first year the WVSSAC State Wrestling Tournament was held with two divisions -- AAA and AA/A.

For 1976, the state was divided into four regions. The champion and runner-up from each region qualified for the tournament. Weir was the Region I champion, and qualified eight for the state tournament. Parkersburg and Parkersburg South each qualified five. East Fairmont qualified eight out of region II.

The 1976 AAA championship finals featured 17 of 24 wrestlers in the finals from Region I. Additionally, 6 of the 12 championship bouts pitted Region I champs with Region I runners up.

1976 was the last appearance as a coach for Hall of Fame member Bob Dutton of Parkersburg.
