Eagles -- Wrestling

Hedgesville High School started its Wrestling program during the 1980-81 season and for that season and the next the Eagles wrestled only JV matches. HHS began a varsity schedule in 1982-83 and current head coach Bill Whittington was an assistant that year and the next. The Eagles were winless both those years and did not compete in the Regional Tournament either year.

Coach Whittington took over as head coach in the 1984-85 season and in the years since Hedgesville has won 755 Duals, 18 County Championships, 7 Conference Championships, 4 Regional titles and has been in the State Tournament every year. The Eagles have had 8 top 10 State Tournament team finishes, 10 Individual Runners-up, 5 Individual State Champions, 4 High School All Americans (Robert Jarrett 1989 and 1990, Anthony Regalbuto 1998 and 2000, and Nick Miller 2011), 42 100-career win wrestlers, one WV State Tournament Oustanding Wrestler, and one Dutton Award winner. Anthony Regalbuto won the Dutton award in 2000.

Matt Forte, a four year starter at Fairmont Senior High is Whittington's Assistant along with HHS alums, Robert Jarrett, John Cardello, Mike Cardello, Ryan Callahan, Gabriel Tost, and Robert Straight.
