WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – A forfeit loss at 125 pounds proved to be the difference as the No. 12-ranked West Liberty University wrestling team dropped a 21-19 decision to No. 15 Findlay Friday night at the ASRC. The visiting Oilers (7-9) won only four of the nine matches wrestled in the match but the host Hilltoppers (7-9) could never get over the hump after starting out in a 6-0 hole due to the forfeit in the opening weight class. West Liberty’s Nick Wykoff scored the only fall of the night when he stopped Findlay’s Jan Ulinski at 3:21 of their 133-pound match.

Mitch Smith, ranked No. 2 nationally at 149 pounds, claimed a major decision in his match while Jarrod Shaw (165), J.D. Ramsey (heavyweight) and No. 7-ranked Mitch Knapp (197) all scored decision wins for the hosts. Coach Brian Davis’s Hilltoppers will be back on the ASRC mat Saturday night when they host Waynesburg (Pa.) College in a 7 p.m. dual.
