No. 15 West Liberty Wrestlers Pitch Shutout

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The No. 15-ranked West Liberty University wrestling team borrowed a page from the Hilltopper baseball team Wednesday night, pitching a shutout against West Virginia Tech at the ASRC.
Coach Brian Davis’s Hilltoppers didn’t lose a single match in rolling to a 45-0 victory against the Golden Bears, a former West Virginia Conference school now competing as an NAIA affiliate.
Seth Phalen (157), Jarrod Shaw (165) and Mitch Knapp (197) all scored falls for West Liberty while Matt Cunningham (141), Brian Leggett (149) Matt Littleton (174), Derrick Williams (184) and J.D. Ramsey (285) won by decision in a dominating performance by the hosts.
The Hilltoppers picked up forfeit wins at 125 and 133.
Wednesday’s match served as a tuneup for this weekend’s East Coast Duals.
The West Liberty mat squad will head south on Friday to participate in the two-day event, which is being hosted by UNC-Pembroke.
