NO. 15 FINDLAY TAKES DOWN WEST LIBERTY WRESTLERS

1/29/2011

FINDLAY, Ohio – Derrick Williams and Mitch Knapp picked up back-to-back wins here Friday night but it wasn’t enough to help the short-handed West Liberty wrestling team avoid a 34-12 loss to No. 15 Findlay at the Oilers’ Croy Gymnasium.

Coach Brian Davis’s Hilltoppers gave up 12 points before the match even started due to forfeits at the 174 and 285-pound weights.

Findlay put the match on ice early with a fall, two major decisions and a decision in the first four weight classes.

Williams got West Liberty on the board with a 7-4 decision against Ashton Brown at 184 and Knapp – the Hilltoppers’ returning NCAA Division II All-American – followed that up with a 4-3 victory against Dan Stevenson but it was too little, too late for the visitors.

West Liberty returns to action Tuesday night when the mat squad travels to Waynesburg for a 7 p.m. dual meet against the Yellow Jackets.
