NO. 13 WLU MAT SQUAD SWEEPS TRIANGULAR

January 7, 2012

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 13-ranked West Liberty University wrestling team picked up right where it left off Saturday afternoon, sweeping to a pair of impressive victories in a triangular meet at Seton Hill University.

Coach Brian Davis's Hilltoppers (5-1) opened their post-holiday slate with a 27-14 victory against Kutztown (Pa.) before closing out the day with a 28-14 romp past the host Griffins. Kutztown downed Seton Hill, 27-12, in the day's opening match.

Both West Liberty matches followed similar patterns with the Black and Gold falling behind in the early going but storming back with strength in the heavier weight classes to win going away.

Art Hobley (149), Jarrod Shaw (157), Jordan Nolan (165) and Matt Littleton (174) all went 2-0 for West Liberty on the afternoon while Jake Donley (197) and 285-pounder JD Ramsey each posted a win on the mat and collected a forfeit decision.

Shaw and Derrick Williams notched the Hilltoppers' only two pins with both of them coming in the Kutztown match. Shaw stopped the Golden Bears' Anthony Frost at 4:40 of their 157-pound bout while Williams brought an early end to his 184-pound match against Giovanni Ortiz.

The West Liberty mat squad hits the road again Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. dual test at Ohio Valley University in Vienna, W.Va.
