Mountaineer Grapplers Shine at Great Plains Invitational

LINCOLN, NEB., (January 3, 2000) West Virginia University's sixteenth ranked wrestling team had seven Mountaineers place in their respective weight classes at the Great Plains Invitational this past weekend in Lincoln, Neb.

Sophomore Joe Carr (Lexington, Ky.), ranked 12th in the nation, placed second at 157-lbs. and posted a 3-1 tournament mark to up his overall record to 18-4. Senior Sean Hage (Marietta, Ga.) also placed second at heavyweight after suffering his first loss of the season to Minnesota's Garrett Lowney. Hage is now 11-1 on the season and ranked fifth in the nation.

Senior Angelo Zegarelli (Deer Park, N.Y.) finished third at 125-lbs with a 3-1 record. Zegarelli is ranked 16th and is now 12-3 overall. Senior Richard Taylor (Milesburg, Pa.) placed fifth at 165 with a 3-2 mark upping his overall record to 12-3.

Senior Bob Patnesky (Canonsburg, Pa.), senior Martius Harding (Baltimore, Md.) and freshman Billy Smith (Greensburg, Pa.) all finished sixth. Patnesky, ranked 13th, is now 12-3. Harding wrestled for the first time this season, posting a 1-2 record. Smith, ranked 20th, went 2-1 at the tournament.

West Virginia (1-0) now faces EWL foe Bloomsburg, Friday, Jan. 7, at 8 p.m. at the WVU Shell Building
(**Please note that the time has been moved forward one hour.) The Mountaineers are 10-10 lifetime versus the Huskies.
