The Mountaineers jumped out to a 4-0 lead as Vertus Jones (#3 at 184) scored a major decision over Dave Murray of Lock Haven to give West Virginia the early lead. The Mountaineers never looked back as they got decisions from Bob Patnesky (#13 at 133) and Richard Taylor at 165. Heavyweight Sean Hage (#6 at Hwt.) won by forfeit.
Freshman Billy Smith upset No. 20-ranked Robbie Weikel to give WVU a 15-9 advantage, and Joe Carr (#16 at 157) pinned Brian Olenek to give the Mountaineers the lead for good.
West Virginia moves to 2-0-1 on the season, and 2-0-1 in the EWL while Lock Haven falls to 7-4, and 1-1 in the EWL. The Mountaineers return to action in the National Dual Meet Championships in Iowa City, Iowa January 22-23.
