JONES NAMED EWL WRESTLER OF THE WEEK
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (January 20, 2003) – West Virginia University
wrestler Greg Jones has been named the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL)
wrestler of the week for his efforts at the Cliff Keen/NWCA National
Duals this past weekend.
Jones, a sophomore from Slickville, Pa., contributed two
victories in West Virginia's losses to No.12 Oklahoma and No.3
Minnesota. The reigning NCAA champion defeated fifth-ranked Robbie
Waller of Oklahoma, 6-5, becoming the fastest West Virginia wrestler to
50 career victories. He also added another win over 11th-ranked Josh
McLay of Minnesota, 3-2, in WVU's other match of the day.
Jones, now 17-0 on the year and the top-ranked wrestler at 174
pounds, will participate in the NWCA All-Star Classic on February 3, at
the University of Delaware. There, Jones will take on second-ranked
Chris Pendleton of Oklahoma State.
