JONES NAMED EWL WRESTLER OF THE WEEK

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (January 20, 2003) – West Virginia University wrestler Greg Jones has been named the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) wrestler of the week for his efforts at the Cliff Keen/NWCA National Duals this past weekend.

Jones, a sophomore from Slickville, Pa., contributed two victories in West Virginia's losses to No.12 Oklahoma and No.3 Minnesota. The reigning NCAA champion defeated fifth-ranked Robbie Waller of Oklahoma, 6-5, becoming the fastest West Virginia wrestler to 50 career victories. He also added another win over 11th-ranked Josh McLay of Minnesota, 3-2, in WVU's other match of the day.

Jones, now 17-0 on the year and the top-ranked wrestler at 174 pounds, will participate in the NWCA All-Star Classic on February 3, at the University of Delaware. There, Jones will take on second-ranked Chris Pendleton of Oklahoma State.
