JONES WINS AT ALL-STAR CLASSIC

NEWARK, Del. (February 3, 2003) – Top-ranked Greg Jones of West Virginia defeated second-ranked Chris Pendleton of Oklahoma State, 7-3, Monday night at the NWCA All-Star Classic.

After a scoreless first period, Jones chose down and promptly scored the escape. He then added a takedown to go up 3-0 before Pendleton recorded the escape to end the period 3-1. Jones then put the match away with two more takedowns in the third period for the convincing 7-3 victory. He did not allow an offensive point in the match. The loss is the first of the season for Pendleton.

Jones, now 19-0 on the season, becomes just the second Mountaineer grappler to win at this event designed to put the top two wrestlers in each weight class against each other. Scott Collins defeated Oklahoma State's Chuck Barbee in 1991 to record WVU's only other victory at the event.

The West Virginia squad will return to action on Friday, Feb. 7, for an EWL dual at Lock Haven at 7:30 p.m., before returning home to take on the Hokies of Virginia Tech on Sunday, Feb. 9, at 1 p.m. in the WVU Coliseum.
