Showdown With Pitt

February 5, 2004

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The 20th-ranked West Virginia University wrestling team plays host to neighboring rival Pitt on Friday, Feb. 6, at 8 p.m., at the WVU Coliseum.

The Panthers return six lettermen, including four NCAA qualifiers, this season. The top two Panthers are Justin Nester (157) and Fran Iorfido (174). The duo has combined for a 43-18 record this season and are ranked 19th and 18th in their respective weight classes.

“I anticipate an even match tomorrow night,” says head coach Craig Turnbull. “There will be some great individual matches that could swing either way. It should be a great match for our fans to watch.”

WVU knocked off Pitt with a convincing 29-8 win in Pittsburgh last year. WVU opened the match by winning the first five bouts and eight of 10 on the night. Pitt holds a 27-20-1 all-time edge on the Mountaineers.

The Mountaineers make their first EWL road trip to Virginia Tech on Sunday, Feb. 8, at 2 p.m., in Blacksburg, Va.
