Grapplers Earn Top 10 Ranking

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – With the season less than two months away, the West Virginia University wrestling team received its first preseason ranking for the 2004-05 season, earning a Top 10 spot from InterMat.com.

The Mountaineers No. 10 ranking ties an all-time high for preseason rankings, matching the 2001-02 mark.

All-American Brandon Lauer, who redshirted last season, is among eight former NCAA qualifiers returning for the upcoming season.

Ten WVU grapplers earned individual rankings in preparation for the upcoming season, highlighted by a No. 1 ranking for two-time NCAA champion Greg Jones.

Listed below are InterMat’s rankings for each of the 10 weight classes:

125: Troy Forte – honorable mention
133: Seth Lisa – honorable mention
141: Brandon Lauer – 5th
149: Mike Torriero – 12th
157: Matt Lebe – 10th
165: Zac Fryling – 20th
174: Ryan Wilman – honorable mention
184: Greg Jones – 1st
197: Jared Villers – honorable mention
285: Brent Miller – 6th
