GREG JONES NAMED AMATEUR WRESTLING NEWS ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (May 7, 2002) * West Virginia University redshirt freshman Greg Jones has been named rookie of the year by the editors of Amateur Wrestling News magazine.

Jones, who finished the year 34-2, won the NCAA title at 174 pounds with a 12-5 victory over Princeton's Greg Parker and outscored his opponents 62-27 at the NCAA championships. He was also named the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) rookie of the year and wrestler of the year, in addition to being named the EWL tournament's outstanding wrestler.

Jones set the WVU record for wins by a freshman and had the seventh-most wins in a season in school history en route to becoming WVU's third national champion.
