MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University wrestling team’s Matt Lebe and Kurt Brenner bagged individual titles at the 24th annual WVU Open on Saturday, Nov. 12, in the Shell Building, while three others finished as runners-up.

Lebe (157 pounds), a Jeannette, Pa., native, won his third WVU Open championship by knocking off Old Dominion’s Chris Brown, 6-4, in the finals. Brenner (174), a Freedom, Pa., native, won his first championship at the tournament when he downed his teammate Chance Litton, 3-2, in the finals.

Besides Litton, Mountaineers Kyle Turnbull (125) and Brandon Rader (141) also made the finals before taking a loss. Turnbull, a Morgantown, W.Va., native, chose not to compete in the finals after suffering a slight injury earlier in the tournament, taking the medical forfeit. Rader, a Parkersburg, W.Va., native, fell to Virginia Tech’s Dave Hoffman, 7-5, in the finals.
