WRESTLING ASSISTANT COACH JOINS OLYMPIC STAFF

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (September 5, 2000) West Virginia University assistant wrestling coach Zeke Jones has been named to the United States Olympic wrestling coaching staff.

Jones, a silver medalist in the 1992 Olympics and WVU assistant coach since 1998, will leave Sept. 14 for Sydney, Australia. His primary responsibilities will be to coach WVU assistant coach Cary Kolat, Melvin Douglas and Sammy Henson.

"This is a tremendous honor to help our wrestlers prepare and hopefully reach their goals at the Olympics," Jones said. "This is tremendous exposure for West Virginia University," Jones added. "We are entrenched in the highest level of wrestling and that shows the commitment Athletic Director Pastilong and coach (Craig) Turnbull have towards our program. Being able to bring back a wealth of Olympic knowledge to our team is very exciting."

Jones is the fifth person with WVU ties who will be traveling to the Olympic Games. Assistant wrestling coach Kolat will wrestle in the 138.75 pound weight class, former WVU shooters Jean Foster and Mike Anti will compete on the Olympic shooting team and WVU swim coach Eric McIlquham will coach the Egyptian swim team.
