THREE MOUNTAINEERS CAPTURE TITLES AT WVU OPEN

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (November 10, 2001) Three West Virginia University wrestlers captured titles and five others had top four finishes in the 20th annual WVU Open Saturday afternoon.

Ricky LaForge, a freshman from Oakland, N.J., defeated teammate Casey Brewster in the finals at 125, 8-0. Joe Carr, ranked 11th in the nation, captured the title at 157 with a 3-1 win over George Carter of Bloomsburg. Greg Jones captured his second consecutive WVU Open title by defeating Matt Erwin, 5-2. Tom McMath and Anthony Regalbuto finished second and third at 165, respectively. Billy Smith (149) and Brent Miller (197) added fourth place finishes to help lead the Mountaineers.

The Mountaineers will return to action Saturday, November 17, at the Navy Classic.

The following are the top four finishers from each weight class:
