ANNAPOLIS, Md., (November 20, 1999) West Virginia University's wrestling team won the 22nd Annual Navy Classic, their second straight, Saturday in Annapolis, Md.

The Mountaineers tallied 157 team points, 41 points more than host Navy and captured five of the ten weight class titles. Four other Mountaineers placed in the top-six of their respective weight classes.

Senior Angelo Zegarelli (Deer Park, N.Y.) won the 125-lb. bracket with a 3-0 record versus his opponents. He defeated Jose Leon of Boston University 10-9 in the championship round after finishing second in the event last year. Zegarelli is now 3-0 on the season and ranked 16 in his weight class by Amatuer Wresling News.

Senior Bob Patnesky (Canonsburg, Pa.) also won the 133-lb. bracket sweeping his competition 4-0 and is now 9-1 on the season. Patnesky, ranked 11th in the nation, defeated No. 17 Dave Vollmer of James Madison in the championship round to attain his first Navy Classic title in three years.

Neal, who defeated Smith in the 149 finals of the WVU Open a week ago, was leading 3-1 with 10 seconds to go in the match after he took down Smith. Smith rebounded with a takedown of his own as time expired in regulation forcing a sudden death period. Smith took down Neal, again, in the extra period to win the match 5-3. Smith is now 7-1 on the season.

Senior Vertus Jones (Slickville, Pa.), ranked third in the nation, won his second straight Navy Classic title by also sweeping his competition 3-0. He defeated Mike Bigrigg of Navy, 10-4, in the championship round. Jones is undefeated on the season with an 8-0 record.
