Jones captured the 184-lb. weight class title in remarkable fashion, sweeping through his competition with six straight victories. The native of Slickville, Pa., defeated two ranked opponents in the semi-finals and finals, respectively, to earn his first Las Vegas Invitational championship. Jones, a two-time All-American and a three-time Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) champion, has yet to lose a match this season and has a combined record of 14-0.
Also, for his efforts in the Las Vegas Invitational, Jones was named the EWL wrestler of the week.
Jones and the Mountaineers are back in action Saturday, Dec. 11, at 1 p.m. in the WVU Shell Building for their season opening dual meet against rival Clarion.
