Wrestlers Continue Rise Through the Rankings

MORGANTOWN, W.Va., (December 15, 1999) West Virginia University's wrestling team moved up one spot to 15 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association poll after defeating Clarion 35-8 last weekend

The Mountaineers (1-0) stayed in the 16h position in the current edition of Intermat Wrestling's poll. Six wrestlers remained ranked in the poll's top 20.

Senior Angelo Zegarelli (Deer Park, N.Y.) remains 15th at 125-lbs., with a 9-2 record. Senior Bob Patnesky (Canonsburg, Pa.) also remains 13th with an 11-1 record at 133. Freshman Billy Smith (New Alexandria, Pa.) moves down a spot to 20th with a 12-4 record at 149, while sophomore Joe Carr (Lexington, Ky.) moves up to 12th with a record of 15-3 at 157. Senior Vertus Jones (Slickville, Pa.) holds an undefeated record of 15-0 at 184-lbs., and remains in the third position. Senior Sean Hage (Powder Springs, Ga.) moves up a spot to sixth at heavyweight with an 8-0 mark.

West Virginia is back in action Jan. 2 at the Great Plains Invitational in Lincoln, Neb.
