Pennesi Earns Academic Honor

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (March 5, 2014) – Senior Nathan Pennesi has been named to the Big 12 Conference 2014 Academic All-Big 12 Second Team, announced by the conference office today.

The Latrobe, Pa., native is an engineering major, and is a member of the Garrett Ford and Big 12 Commissioner’s Academic Honor Rolls. This is the second time in Pennesi’s career he has been named to the Academic All-Big 12 Second Team.

The three-time national qualifier enters the Big 12 Championships this weekend at 16-9 on the season, and 8-6 in dual meets. He finished second at the Navy Classic on Nov. 23, and fourth at the Reno Tournament of Champions on Dec. 22.

Sixteen Big 12 wrestling student-athletes have been named to the 2014 Academic All-Big 12 Wrestling Team.

Oklahoma and Oklahoma State each placed seven members on the team with all seven Sooner selections earning first team recognition.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better grade point average, while the second-team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
