Moisey Earns Big 12 Honor

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. (February 9, 2015) – West Virginia University wrestler Zeke Moisey has been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.

A true freshman, Moisey registered back-to-back major decisions to finish the weekend 2-0. He earned a 15-6 major decision over Hunter Jones of Clarion to help the Mountaineers to a 26-9 victory over the Golden Eagles on Friday evening. Moisey had four first-period takedowns to lead 8-3 after the first period, before adding six more points on two takedowns and a reversal in addition to the riding time point.

On Saturday, the Northampton, Pennsylvania, native notched his second Big 12 win of the season with a 13-5 major decision over Iowa State’s Kyle Larson. Moisey came from behind to take a 3-2 lead into the second period before recording four more takedowns in the final four minutes of action.

“Zeke has made huge strides, and we look forward to seeing big things from him in the postseason,” said WVU coach Sammie Henson. “His toughness and mentality represent our style of wrestling, and it’s great to see his hard work rewarded.”

Moisey is now 2-1 in league action with a 25-11 mark overall, putting him in a three-way tie in the WVU record books for wins by a freshman. He is also tied for fifth in single-season wins at 125 and boasts a team-best 42 takedowns and 12 bonus-point victories.

The Mountaineers will host Ohio University on Sunday at the WVU Coliseum in a 1 p.m. dual.
